I've played this game through the entirety of its pre-release and have enjoyed every minute of it. It's been quite a journey watching it grow into the game it is now.

Oxygen is actually included, but it is one of the resources you need to learn to manage. Higher on the priority list is a place for them to visit when nature calls, and food production.

Now that the game has been released there are multiple asteroid types you can start out on which offer increased degrees of difficulty. In addition there are also two starting modes, Survival and “No Sweat”.

Choosing “No Sweat” doesn’t affect world generation at all, but it does give your dupes modifiers that will make the game a bit easier. They will be more germ resistant, have lower morale requirements, burn calories much slower so the food you have lasts longer, and they gain stress slower.

There is a pretty good modding community, although like with Factorio and other games, I’d personally recommend playing it through without mods first, to get a good grasp of the vanilla game.

There are plenty of let’s plays on Youtube and an active Reddit community as well. If you find yourself with a problem, help isn’t far away.

As my mood dictates, I switch between this game, Dwarf Fortress, Factorio and Rimworld. If you are a fan of any of these games, I expect you’ll like Oxygen Not Included

Best. Resource. Management. Game. Ever.

The vast majority of my hours in this game do not show up on steam, because I don't usually launch it from steam. I have different folders with different versions, different mods, etc that I launch and play. (If you buy the game you can download non-steam versions from the developer website).

I play a lot of resource management games. Dwarf fortress. Rimworld. Oxygen Not Included, etc. This game is so simple, at first, and so complex if you want it to be.

I've been playing it for a long time and the developer is one of the best. Always listening to the community, always working on the game.

Great mod support! However, I recommend not using any mods, until you've earned all the achievements first, to help you gain a complete understanding of the game.

I can't say enough good things about this game. A value at any price!

EDIT 30 Nov 2020: I originally wrote this review in November of 2018. The game has since been released, and everything I noted above still stands. I can't recommend this game enough!

EDIT: 25 Nov 2021: Tens of thousands of hours later... (still almost none on Steam, though). This is the game that just keeps on giving!

EDIT: 24 Nov 2022: What more can I say?

EDIT: 23 Nov 2023: Steam wants me to update a review for the Autumn sale badge. So I did.

EDIT: 1 Dec 2024: Steam wants me to update a review for the Autumn sale badge. So I did.
