We played this together for about an hour. Every day, I keep asking her to play. But my girlfriend just says, "I don't like playing Dropsy. It... makes my heart feel sick."

Highly recommended.

Fantastic game made better by the Advanced Edition free expansion. Few other games match its depth while maintaining an extremely accessible UI. No twitch skill necessary--the pause feature lets you rearrange your power expenditures, queue up unit actions, and target weapons. Even losing can be catastrophically fun. Buy it.

Why is this game free? I don't know. It's not a demo. There are no F2P gimmicks either. It's truly a labor of love.

So now that we got that out of the way, this is a great game. The gameplay, setting, and characters are deeply nostalgic for Quest for Glory, King's Quest, and old-school Sierra adventure game fans. The gameplay has actually taken a few modern design sensibilities to heart, adding more combat complexity and skill improvement notifications. The rich Norse setting is brought to life with colorful, interactive 2D backgrounds. While this game has a bit more text to pour through than the old Sierra games, I feel that most of the fully voice-acted characters have interesting personalities, and more conversation options are unlocked as you discover more of the world. The only thing I miss is QFG4's sardonic narrator making fun of you for trying to use a shovel on a tree--the text is there, but a voice would be more enjoyable.

I would have easily paid $20-30 bucks for this well-polished game, even though I am a miserly Steam-sale-only buyer. It must be the nostalgia factor. Rest assured, however, that if you liked Skyrim or Fallout, and you too Want To Be a Hero, there is also something mysterious and playful here to discover. Check out The Heroine's Quest, then to satisfy your appetite for more, check out Quests for Glory 1-4. QFG2 was remade, and you can download it for free here: http://www.agdinteractive.com/games/qfg2/

Don't read anything about this game. Don't watch any Let's Plays or reviews on Youtube. Just play it. This game needs to be experienced.

Is it on sale for under 10 bucks? Do you not already have it? Buy it. Spend a few hours searching for different endings. It is one of the most pleasurable and unexpected gaming experiences I have ever witnessed.

This is a game that will defy your expectations, then ruthlessly criticize you for having any expectations in the first place. Buy it.
