My Poem
Dear Rachel
[archiveofourown.org]

In Fall, he left this world too soon.
How could I live? And how could Mom?
I’d Rewind Fate’s perverted thread:
I’d die for him without a qualm.

And then she left without a word.
We’d dreamt we’d rule the world, we two.
In Spring, I wept my soul to Fate;
In Fall, I wished I’d follow through.

In Spring, you came, an Amber storm,
A wildfire in vernal bloom.
You gave a love I hadn’t known:
My core burned deep; my heart had room.

You were a force with angels’ grace;
You swept me up in blonde and blue.
In Fall, our love like blazes rose;
In Spring, we fell in love anew.

*

In Spring, you left without a word.
We’d dreamt we’d run away, we two.
Our bliss would seal your place of rest:
Fate’s dark design had cost me you.

Then she returned, hence five years’ pain,
Yet still my core sought nought but you.
In Fall, she gave the world for me;
In Spring, my heart felt she was true.

In Fall, she helped unweave the past:
By Fate’s grim grasp I’d fallen thrice.
We faced a Choice, one only hers:
She Chose my love; we paid the Price.

At first, all I knew was to mourn,
Yet Fields of love she wished to give.
In Spring, our love like florets rose;
In Fall, I learned at last to live.

*

I love her, just as I’d loved you.
If only you could love her too.
