EDIT: So far so good. No longer punished for playing the game; Sticking it out till the end of the match if you're having a good/fun game now brings in a good profit even as F2P.

The classic situation of devs producing an excellent product, but the money motivated management engaging in anti-consumer, anti-player designs. Then the GALL to release a statement blaming us for being upset about their predatory practices. The game is good, the monetary scheme behind it makes in border unbearable.

play on the hardest difficulty and pretend you're in a horror game during the solo missions.

They removed the microtransactions! Great game and a fantastic improvement over the previous. So much dialogue and characters to discover!

Early Access Review
As great as this game is, it doesn't allow the player to make mistake, building and training take time and are resource intensive but regardless of how you prepare; if you make a mistake it's over.
Buildings have two (2) health bars: an "infection" bar and a regular health bar. The "infection" bar is only 25-50% of the buildings total health but its the first to go if its attacked, when that "infection" bar hits 0 the building spawns a new swarm of zombies equal to the required workers used to run it. Your troops at this point can easily be overwhelmed due to the extreme close quarters and training new units on the fly take too long so you can't bring in reinforcements unless they run from elsewhere.
Once you lose more than three (3) buildings the swarm can be too large to handle in close quarters unless you have late game units, if you don't have them at that point it may be nonsensical to keep playing till you lose.
Playing very defensively, very slowly expanding and building troops more often is an option but you'll run out of space and have to wait around a lot. This game needs a way to be more proactive while you wait to for resources that goes beyond telling your archers to scout and clear small pockets.

As much as people don't like this game, I like the direction it took the series that ds3 reverted from. The slower, methodic gameplay required you to think before each move and really understand what was happening since roll spamming doesnt work if you are new to an enemy. The story is vague just as before but this time, it teaches you that the world has fallen so far that no one even knows who or what came before, its all been buried and replaced. The game does a good job at focusing on the undead but it makes the bosses feel alot more weak in terms of story but puts into perspective the pain the undead are feeling after being affected by the curse.

Only negative I can give this game is the brutality of the RNG, it can cost you hours especially during the final boss.
FTL is a strong strategic game with awesome short story like elements as you travel across the... Sectors. Although the game can be difficult, the key lies in slow strategic planning as you deal with every situation which is not always combat related. In all don't assume that your amazing ship will garauntee your victory, or you may find yourself incredibly frustrated, instead focus on every encounter like its own victory or defeat.

The games story although seemsfunny quickly becomes dark and sad as you get a grasp on the true weight of what this world has gone through. Playing with a friend is a MUST as it increases the humor and chaos.
Map editor and community maps give the game an enormous variety and unique challenge on top of the regular game.
