I absolutely love this game because I'm a big sci-fi nerd. I love space exploration and wish it would happen in my lifetime, but I doubt it. I've been looking up all the star systems to see if they're real or not. You'll be surprised on how much was taken from the real world.

A few colonists will poke fun at Skyrim sayings. Found one that was starting off "I used to be an explorer like you..."

I like the fact that the game doesn't allow you to do stuff that you wouldn't be able to do in real life. Some of your followers though seem to be able to live in the vacuum of space for a few minutes until they get their suit on.

Some of my observations from playing:
  • Can't land on Uranus because it's gassy. :)
  • Starting off was weird because I had been playing No Man's Sky. Once you get used to the menu though, it doesn't take any time to go to one world to another.
  • Gunplay has been acceptable but the stealth part really needs work. Using a shotgun in zero g is a blast.
  • Followers need better intelligence of not to walk in front of you when you're shooting.
  • Outposts really need a mission in order to learn how they work. I've messed up one mission, as I can't relink one to Jemison to supply HNCN. Most have been trial and error.
  • Leveling up is slow. Not sure how to get faster with anything in game.
  • Finding a ship where the gravity generator is on the fritz is actually more fun than you think it would be.

Since I've found out that Elias Toufexis does the voice for Sam Coe, he's been my constant companion. Some of his lines are hysterical. He was telling the above ship to pick a lane with the gravity and stick with it.

If you can get past the character creation without issue, then you're on your way to a very enjoyable game. I've not had any issues with the game as I have a Ryzen 9 5950x/RTX 3090/64GB. My Steam Deck had issues in the beginning that have been address by updates, but I've had to switch the start/select buttons as they were doing the opposite in game.

I'm 20 hours into the game as I got the early release and absolutely love it. I went with Ravenclaw this playthrough.

Gameplay:
Controls are kind of weird, but I had been playing AC Valhalla before this so I was used to it. I am using an Xbox controller for my PC. Everything is getting better and can be adjusted in settings. The broom follows regular flight controls so those are worth looking at the settings to see if you need to invert them.

Each spell has a different color for each category. You can change these at any time to get the right combo of spells to help you defeat enemies. You do have to attend "classes" and do your assignments before you can gain new spells.

Collectables/mini games do have a purpose and it would be in your best interest to do them when you can.

Computer:
I have an RTX 3090, Ryzen 9 5950X, a m2 SSD, and a 144Mhz 1080p monitor. I've had to turn off the upscaling and set it to 60FPS because of some stuttering. I am running ultra graphics though and this game is just beautiful! I've not had any crashes in the game, but did see where a wall texture was overlaid with another one and causing some flickering.

Overall:
As I have never read the Harry Potter books, and have only seen the movies, I will liken the game to the movies. It does capture the essence of the Potter world. I've not found the Bertie Bott's jellybeans yet, but have been to only one candy store so far. The candy you do get to eat has been fun to see the result.

You are either a witch or a warlock and have a choice between male/female voices. Dialogue uses the gender neutral they/them, gentleperson, etc. Personally I'm GenX and a she/her, but do not give a damn that they went with neutral terms. I'm also left handed and would love to have a left handed character instead of right handed. Game does have a female character referring to her wife, and a bartender that states "I used to be a warlock but now I'm a witch".

I personally feel the game does not deserve all the hate it's been getting because of the original author. Play the game for what it is. A magical world that you can cast spells, ride broomsticks, talking paintings and suits of armor that hum to themselves. Who wouldn't want that in real life?!

*** Below has spoilers ***

Update:

After finishing the game I have a lot of thoughts of "what were the devs thinking?" There were a lot of plot holes, some choices didn't matter and there was no morality in the story. The spells were fine, but why bother with some of the potions? I used two of them more often than the others. Other than the cabbages, why bother with the other two plants?

It seems writers did a half ass job with a lot of it. Will there be a DLC to wrap up things? What happens next year? Will someone make a DLC sized mod to add an evil flare to it?

Seems like people are being left hanging.

This game is absolutely beautiful!

That said, the gameplay is quite good though at first I wasn't sure being a porter would be any fun. You do have to plan out your runs though and as the game said, always have something you're carrying from one place to another. Doing that has minimized my time of running around place to place.

Don't let the single player status fool you. This has multiplayer elements to it, but they've been thoughtfully added in. No you won't see millions of people in your game, but you will see the cargo they've dropped. You can pick this up and deliver it for them. It seems that you both get "likes" once you deliver the cargo.

Also, everyone can contribute to building roads, etc so you don't have to do it all yourself. This makes the game go a lot faster. There's no grinding for materials and one person takes it all, as once you contribute materials to building something, they're gone and can't get them back.

Humorous: making Sam take a shower, pee and poop so you can get grenades. Gives new meaning of slinging poop at your enemies.

Cons: every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rock known to man is in this game. Seriously?! I have finally unlocked the ziplines so I'm in the process of building those to get around faster. You have to plan those carefully, but once they're built, they're great to get around on. BTs are becoming annoying especially when you're trying to get to some places. You actually have to get out of your vehicle in order to use your weapons.

Early Access-recension
I don't recommend playing the multiplayer with people whom you're not good friends with. The people I was playing with on a private server left me hanging more often than not. They also whined that I wasn't pulling my weight in gathering resources. Seriously? We only get 3 points per leveling up so what am I supposed to do if you're expecting me to go down one skill tree while you go down another?!

As for the single player, it's actually better to play this first if you're new to the game. You can adjust a lot of settings to make it easier or more difficult. You also can also add more mods to the game to make it better.

I actually started doing the single player version to get the mods. I found it a lot more enjoyable to play with these and at my own pace. I'm not sure what the end goal is with this game, but at the moment I'm enjoying building my own town on an island.

Don't buy if you own a newer Mac. The devs have stopped supporting the Mac version for anything newer than 10.12. I have 10.13.6 (High Sierra) and it has issues with some gameplay.

I got this game as part of the Unity HumbleBundle that is/was being offered. I thought great another dev that will be getting my support because they're supporting the Mac. Nope! It looked like it was going to be another great game and has Japanese audio. That is a big plus in my book since I'm learning Japanese and want all the practice I can get.

After playing this close to 50 hours, I can say this game plays different from the other Assassin's Creed titles. For one thing you don't get the hidden blade until later in the game, and even then it's not the main focus. It does give you a backstory though of why the ring finger was always cut off to make room for the blade.

I'm not going to really list a pros/cons in my review, but just give you some of the highlights.

* Hidden blade - not the main focus of this game but does come in handy when upgraded
* Elements of AC Black Flag when sailing - no cannonballs because of the time period, but does keep some of the same elements of play. This is only for a few quests.
* Able to play as female in a few quests.
* Sense of humor throughout the game. A comment about the Sphinx was especially funny.
* Poison darts and the fun you can have with them.
* Raiding tombs for various loot
* Halucinations while riding in the desert
* Clearing out an area can be done at your leisure and doesn't count against you during a quest. No more 100% completion BS like the other Creed games.
* Putting your horse or camel on auto pilot for the next quest you want to do.

Other thoughts:

As for an RPG, I upgraded weapons/shields in the beginning and now I just use something until the next best thing comes along. I don't even bother with upgrading unless it has become my favorite.

I have an i7-3770, GTX 770, and 1080p and consistently get around 45 fps with high settings. There have been a few times when it would slow to a crawl, but this was when there was a lot going on on the screen. To me this hasn't been a deal breaker like it has for others.

Ubisoft has seemed to fix a lot of issues that have plagued the other games, but there's always room for improvement.

After playing this for about a week I can honestly say that Ubisoft has learned their lesson and listened to the feedback from people who've played the first Watch Dogs.

San Francisco does have a large gay population in addition to being a tech city. This game reflects this in a positive way, at least for the USA version, and doesn't try to censor. Don't buy this game if you can't handle gays, lesbians, or transgender people.

Pros:
  • Nod to Max Headroom and other old school computing while blending that in with today's icons, memes, etc. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYdpOjletnc
  • Better mini games, and not a look into someone's personal hell (Aiden Pearce)
  • Better main story/character, interaction with a team, trying to better people's lives instead of out for revenge
  • Being able to 3D print guns!
  • More cool toys to play with (RC car and drone) that you actually have to use for missions.
  • Better online play where players are helping each other instead of ruining each other's fun.
  • More places to fast travel to instead of just your HQ
  • More interaction with NPCs
  • Graphics look better than first game
  • Low FPS hasn't been much of a problem with my computer - i7-3770/GTX 770 2GB
  • No microstutters when driving

Cons:
  • You actually have to buy the cars for the on-demand app instead of just unlocking them. This makes sense though as you end up with a ton of money at the end from all the hacking.
  • Driving aspect, even with a controller, is still quirky even though it has been improved over the first game.
  • Some icons are not intuitive as to what they do.

Other thoughts:
While this game is a work of fiction, unfortunately it's becoming more and more like real life in the way the US government treats its citizens. We don't have a Blume/ctOS yet, but I wouldn't doubt it if something like them came along in the next few years.

This review is for the season pass only:

As a result from a glitch caused by Microsoft in updating my computer, I can no longer load my saved game after 10 hours of play. Why? Because of the "enforcer pack" that was installed in the beginning. I haven't even used the other parts of the DLC, so who knows if I'll still have those or not.

Well Eidos/Square Enix, you've now be officially put into the Ubisoft box in which I'll wait and see about new games based on the reviews. I certainly won't be buying any season passes from you.

Update: I started a new game and the coats/armor (intruder gear and enforcer gear) are missing from the new game. I've submitted a ticket to Square Enix to see what they're going to do about this.

After playing this game for about 24 hours, I can say that this is a worthy update to the original SimCity series. Zooming in all the way gives you a model look similar to model trains, towns, etc.

During the game, I pick the coal plant and it promptly blows up just as my town was growing. Start over. Built roads for residents, commercial and industrial and ran out of money before I had a chance to put all electric and water lines down. Start over. Now it seems that residents won't ride the bus or any other mass transit and would rather be in long lines while driving. Having to borrow money to keep the city going and provide more services to keep people happy. Trying to find a happy medium for taxes so people will stay.

Just a typical American city and the developers have done well in recreating that!
