Good stuff:
- platforming is good and fun
- time rewind mechanic is really nice. You can actually use it all the time if you want - there's always a vase or two that's guaranteed to drop a charge for a dagger if you're low on the stuff.
- story is not the greatest, but its not too bad or dragged out. Also fully self-sufficient, no need to know anything really. It was my first PoP game way back in 2007 and it was as interesting to me then as it is now.
- alternative form is really nice to spice up combat and force you into quick thinking when you need to go through platforming parts. Although breakables always drop sand when you're dark prince, so its not TOO hard.
- stealth is cool as a thinking challenge, but gets a bit dull due to same animations over and over again.
- Cinematics are good for their time.

Bad stuff:
- combat is really boring after few first encounters. Stealth is really helping here by allowing to skip it when you're in a "light" prince mode. Also you one-shot everything after getting sword of light.
- couldn't get it to work with any of modern controllers, even through steam input. Keyboard and mouse plays well tho, so not a big deal.

Aesthetics are great, but level design, and arenas especially are way worse than it was in the main game. I love how levels LOOK but hate actually PLAYING THEM on hardest difficulty.

Like, who the f**k decided that putting the fog which limits your vision to like 1 meter is a good idea?
Also, it feels like devs think that more demons = more fun, and while this statement has some truth in it, it's not THAT straightforward.
To me, game turned into "dying until you figured enemy spawn order", which really sucks. I'm not some super-gamer, and yet I was able to comfortably play on nightmare without dying every encounter because apparently totems now DON'T SPAWN ENEMIES INDEFINITELY AND WAIT UNTIL YOU KILL ALL THE MONSTERS.
Or invisible whiplashes. At least add ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ codex entry for this new variation. We have pinkies and spectres, after all.
Or dying to possessed baron because I just killed another 2 common barons and 2 tyrants, and then this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ appears from behind a wall.
And why couldn't you guys give somewhat different AI to a pair of marauders? The way it was for me turned into 2 separate marauders fights, one just after the other, because they just couldn't do ♥♥♥♥ together. It wouldn't be any different if you just got two of them separately IMHO.
And no progression. Three runes for three 1h+ long levels. It's not even funny.

In the end, it isn't "hard but fun" anymore, but simply frustrating.

That's the Trine I was waiting for. Thanks, devs!

Update after story completion:

I must admit: story isn't the most brillian one, even comparing to previous games. There's some characters which just appears from nowhere, gave you a bit of help and then they're gone. No motivation, no characters developement - they're just there to take your time until you beat the game.

And then there's that last chapter where you fight that gargoyle of prince even though you've been just told that only prince himself can fight this shadow.

But otherwise the game is good, puzzles are great and I like how they're adapted for player amount and gamemode (classic or other one).

Also liked return of the leveling system, even though I think it'd be better if it was somewhat less story-dependant, as it was in Trine 2.

Also... rubberized ball? Never used it in the entire playthrough.

Great game. It takes time to get used to controls (especially on gamepad), but you won't be able to take your eyes off screen once you do.

  • Cool bosses
  • Free DLCs (I'd buy them though if they were paid. Devs deserve this.)
  • Cool visual style
  • One of the best soundtracks I've ever heard
  • Anything else I didn't mention

First time i saw this game i thought: "wtf is this?" but when i played it for 50 hours i understood that this is really awesome game. And after that was alot of updates like 1.2 and now 1.3. Now this is one of best game i ever seen.
