the game does not launch. I made a support post on the game's discussions forum and was dismissively pointed towards a FAQ - which I should note I had already gone through the suggested steps of - and after providing game logs I was not given any further help. the devs have provided zero support for an unplayable product.

Kit9, the studio publishing the game, have started enforcing an extraordinarily strict set of rules against fan-made content. They have went as far as abusing DMCA to take down all social media accounts of an artist, Watasi, even those where the artist in question had not shared any TCOAL content in. Watasi said she would then stop selling her art and never draw TCOAL ever again and moved her art to discord to archive it. Kit9 proceeded to get her Reddit account and Discord accounts banned, and further banned all discussion of the topic on the fan forums.

Not a game that respects your time. The game tries to be mechanically deep enough where it can boast about how there's enough content to keep you going for weeks but also will gladly throw it all away on a whim. The game doesn't even have a manual saving feature. Lost a character that I've been grinding for three weeks after a zombie walked through my axe swing and got me infected. ''Hardcore design'' my ass, the game is only good if you don't mind spending days (Yes, real life days.) grinding stuff like carpentry or electronics just so you can die a few days later and do that exact same grind vertbatim all over again.

First of all, spoilers. This is such a great game that I can't do it justice without mentioning some very minor spoilers, all of which is stuff you can find on the Steam description itself.

All Ashes and Illusions is a dark visual novel about a man's struggle to grow up. Born into the ghettos of Indra, Yuel's mother is killed in a drive-by from a rival gang. For him, a tragedy. But for most, just another woman lost to the game. Yuel must swallow his sorrow, for fear of earning his gang's ire.

With no homies to turn to, he throws his life away into the game. Meeting a shawty named Safiya, the two of them hit it off. She did promise to stay with him, after all – and, single-minded to a fault, Yuel is determined to see this promise fulfilled at any cost.

I want to end this review with an inspiring quote from the main character:
"Once you understand it's dodge and hit, then you realize that the game ain't s**t." - Yuel Shakur.

Even after all this time the game is nothing but a fancy ship builder. I'll make this review positive once there's an actual game to play.
