Developers are entirely disconnected from their playerbase. The balance design always puts difficulty above fun but not only that, just a genuine misunderstanding of how a video game works. Popular weapons become popular because all the other guns are unusable. The developers see weapons being popular, nerf them and force people to use the guns they didnt want to use and throw the old ones away. They then see people using the other guns, nerf those... repeat and repeat.

Literally hitting a point where a flamethrower doesn't deal damage because enemy armour values mean every enemy in the game is immune to them. I just, cannot believe how disconnected they are not only from their community but also the very basics of just, video game design.

This is the 3rd time they've said they're sorry and are going to fix it. Fool me once.. ect ect. Officially given up on this now.

It feels like it's trying to be more like company of heroes 1 than 2 which theoretically is a step in the right direction. Unfortunately it feels like the game had entirely no budget. Weird and poor animations, watching men wiggle on the floor in super speed. Unit variety seems to be missing, and the UI is absolutely terrible. I can't even see some of the pictures on the upgrade menu. Pathfinding feels all over the place. The music is just extremely bland and fails to bring any emotion to the already quite bland design.

I think the biggest crime this game commits compared to the other games is simply that. It doesn't feel like a war, there is an lack of intensity in combat that even CoH2 which I personally disliked compared to 1, still managed to grasp unlike this game. Very very cheap looking art, it might be a stylistic choice but it just looks so cheap.

CoH3 is.. really sad. It feels like the end of the series as it continued to fail recapture the first game. While the second had its moments, it still came short due to intense micro-transaction fuelled designs. It's like the game was just given to a B team who had the right idea but lacked budget and experience to pull it off. I wouldn't be surprised that the second game failed to meet expectations of investors or something and so they drastically pulled down the budget.

It's all just a little depressing to see the best RTS i've ever played turned into just.. sort of a bad version of itself. It's CoH1 but the animations are not as good. It's CoH1 but the combat feels much less intense. It's CoH1 but the music is much more dull. It's CoH but worse and confused. This series started off so strong, but continues to not understand why it started off so well. Very upsetting to see the game I adored and pushed the RTS genre up in quality so much, now falling so far behind not only other games, but its own first ever release.

Don't buy this, just play CoH1, a near identical game but better in every possible aspect.

Give it 4 years and it might be near done. It's very clear executives opted to directly copy paste from popular mobile phone games when they made their weapon systems and premium store. Unfortunately those systems suck on phones and even more on an actual Steam released game. They tried to increase player retention by forcing you to login every day and every hour to see if you can actually improve your gear by pure RNG rotating shops.

The gameplay is basically Vermintide 2 but not as good in every way, set in space. If I reviewed purely on the gameplay I'd say it's decent but not incredible. Everything touched outside of active gameplay is miserable, confusing and intentionally random to try to force you to keep playing. Classes feel very similar, yet somehow launch with only 4, unlike vermintide 2 launching with 12. Vermintide 2 managing to make all 12 classes feel more unique than darktides 4.

It's fun to play with friends, I'll still play it to but i've effectively entirely given up on engaging in any part of the game beyond jumping directly into a mission and killing stuff. Everything else is just active misery of "come back next time." As you find the store doesn't even stock the weapons that are literally MADE for your class.

Insane obsession for player retention that just makes playing it unrewarding.

Updated:
It is mostly fixed! The RNG issues are still there when it comes to weapons however, players do have much greater control over it than on release. The new class system greatly improved the flow of gameplay and added great variety to joining random games.

They could have sold the new class abilities as DLC but decided not to, I feel like the game is in a good place right now for the price and would recommend it to anyone interested in four player co-op.

I opened it up only to find one of the most amature UI's i've ever seen in my entire life. It looked significantly worse than RPG maker games that are free. Changed the settings (all two options) from full screen to windowed. Clicked new game and noticed a few things. I simply cannot emphasise how comically terrible the UI is.

https://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2824870322 My own screenshots would not work for some reason with this game. Someone else however did get an image.

The game somehow looked worse than the 95 version. I have NO IDEA how they managed it and frustratingly it's hard to explain. It just, does look worse. Maybe cleaning it up in certain areas ruined the art style or simply they cleaned it up poorly. Personally I can't point my finger at any specific thing but, it just looked weird.

I found after alt-tabbing that the game had not saved the borderless windowed change I did. I tried again and realized it did not the next time. Only to notice, that the "accept" button for the resolution change had broken text.

I'm surprised, Nightdive usually put a lot of work into their remakes but this is absolutely unacceptable. Within less than 15 minutes, I encountered clunky controls, bad visual changes and multiple bugs. How did you mess this up so much? I literally went to the options menu for a minute, clicked new game and encountered so much weird jank.

Refunded and extremely disappointed that Nightdive thought it was acceptable to release in such a humiliating state.

Edit: I know some will explain that you still get the original version for free with it. That's not an excuse. They want 8 euro's for the enhanced version, not 5 euros for the classical version. I am being sold the enhanced version and that is what I will review.

Edit: The most recent update is certainly a step in the right direction. Anti-player bias was reduced and a lot of big issues such as replenishment was improved for some factions. Whoever is now managing the project seem to be more receptive/involved with the community. I'll keep this as negative still for now but its FINALLY improving the way people asked.

Edit#2: Game has fixed most of its launch issues now. A few lay around waiting to ambush you at annoying moments but overall, it's a far better game now. I'm leaving the review up as I personally am very exhausted of total war games coming out with horrific balance and would like this to serve as a reminder. If this game came out in the state it is now in, it would be a big thumbs up.

Ooof where to start? The fact that it wasn't ready? The fact that they doubled down on things people hated in the other games? The freakishly slow updates to get some of the most basic issues fixed? The fact a warhammer game needs almost an entire year to get blood added?... a warhammer game, where you can play as the blood god. The fact the main campaign is an absolute miserable experience? There's just.. so much more. I'll start with the positives.

The main positive I could give is that factions have much more engaging mechanics to them than earlier games. Even if their rosters are miserably small... no we're trying to say something nice here. Ogres feel actually finished as a roster, with interesting mechanics and a wide variety of units.

The bad.. well it's difficult to explain how extremely bad some of these things are with a character limit so short. I could write multiple pages about the design flaws in the main campaign. Flaws ranging from complex issues that are difficult to deal with to amateur design choices that you'd imagine get thrown out the first time they slip from anyone's lips let alone added to a 60$ AAA title.

The campaign is effectively a race, which gets triggered every 20-30 turns. Unfortunately, this absolutely kills the pacing of the base Total War gameplay. Everything comes to a halt, as you enter Chaos realms to get a soul first. Only to realiize that you are the only one playing this game. The AI is not playing the same game as you at all. They do not have the same challenges, they do not get the same debuffs, they do not have to complete the same puzzles, they do not need buildings to recruit units, they do not need to actually do anything you do. They just automatically breeze through while you suffer the most miserable experiences of endless debuffs and being attacked by other enemies while your main army is in some pocket dimension. The game actively punishes you for playing the game as intended. Expanding your settlements and empire means the AI will disproportionately focus you. Allowing their own home to be burned down with no reaction, while sending 3 armies to your doorstep. Maybe get allies? They could be useful if there wasn't an in game design that makes any AI who you alliance with, suddenly become the most passive and weak faction. Yes, if you alliance with an AI, they actually get their AI debuffed to not do anything by themselves. The AI is just so obviously AI due to its comical level of player targeting bias. Shamelessly doing anything it can to stop you while doing nothing else the entire game. An issue so bad, even the developers have had to admit it needs fixing. Just keep in mind, this was not added as a bug, this was the INTENDED DESIGN.

The game is such a mess, everything has been put on hold. Months dedicated to fix the horrific design choices that were baked deep into the game. Also, 7 months needed to fix replenishment for 2 factions? What is going on over there? How does it take 7 months to fix things that modders fixed within hours of mods coming out?

Give it a year or a little more, then it might be in a launchable state. Sadly it could have been good, but CA decided to ignore feedback and stick with whatever they wanted to do. Lets hope that changes fast.

Never have I had such a love hate relationship with a game. It's so amazingly well designed in terms of management and actually designing a good base. The art design, music and gameplay I could write a paragraph each of how well each one is done. Instead, I have to write about how much the developers HATE YOU.

I have never experienced such a game which actively tries to make you unhappy. I'm not talking about difficult bosses, maps ect. I'm talking about them actively pulling the rug under you and just saying "lol screw you, but now you've lost you know what's coming." Combined with them forcing you to play absolutely terrible missions called "tactical missions" in which can take 30min or more, filled with enemies around corners that can instantly kill you unless you grenade them, but they're so fast you need it pixel perfect or you'll kill yourself in the process.

The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is immensely amplified by the fact there are no checkpoints. Lose a game and you start all over again which can like up to 2-3 hours of progress. Combine this with developers randomly slapping you with immense gimmicks that will slaughter you the first time, its immense frustration.

I decided to check the forums for help, due to a bug causing me to lose the game to a boss being triggered earlier than the game intended. The developers responded in these threads with passive aggressive insults while also saying that "That's not supposed to happen" and nothing else. No fixes, nothing. It's just a bug that gives you a game over, the developers know and just don't care.

I love your game but as developers, why do you actively hate your players? You add missions nobody likes with instant death traps all over losing hours of progress. You setup a campaign where if you manage the tech tree badly you genuinely can't win and you can't undo it. You allow game breaking bugs in the game, notice them and respond to players with passive insults?

I finally snapped when on the last mission, there is a wave so unfair that I found out the only real way to beat it, is to bug out the AI for it. They literally expect you to exploit the AI to win on the last level, instead of you know, fixing the bad game design.

This is all not mentioning how they actively went out of their way to prevent modding for the game which is another story of their own.

TLDR: Amazing game that absolutely hates its players due to developers being more obsessed with being "hardcore" than making an actually fun game.

A great narrative driven game, great voice acting, well motivated characters as well was willing to look at the bigger and smaller sides of political issues.

I could write a huge review talking about various disappointments. It's not a bad game, it's actually a very good one but it has one big flaw. It's simply not as good as the first one by a significant margin.

Hey, you remember when games were about having fun? I member. This game members.

Despite some very big flaws, this game is simply just a lot of fun. I would say it's amazing nobody has really done such an obvious premise as a game already but given the game industry, i guess i'm not. Colourful, energetic and most of the time a laugh i think it's certainly worth the price. There's little to say as you pretty much get exactly as advertised, which i guess is another rare thing.

There are some extremely frustrating issues that can really ruin the game and leave a sour taste in your mouth.
1) Laggy players can really mess you up. For example when you're expected to hold onto something, a laggy player can just snipe it out of your hands from about two meters away.
2) Other players can knock you over when you jump. It feels very random and most the time it's a laugh. Sometimes you jump once and then spend the next ten seconds being bounced about to last place while none of your controls respond.
3) Sometimes you just... fall over. It's really rare but if you're in a finale and your character just falls over for absolutely no reason, it's a really souring moment.

It needs more maps as well, so those who are a little cautious about buying this should probably give it some more time. Fix a few bugs, add some more maps and i think this is certainly a game that's worth picking up.

This is a massive maybe for me, but overall if i wrote a long detailed review the end summary is just. "Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh?"...."Ehhhh? Maaaaaaybe? It's okay?" Simply because of the strange structure of the game itself. I am writing this review as a game not a remake.

Simply put, the game is really great for about the first 40% of it. Then after a certain stage it just becomes extremely dull. New enemy types stop being added except for 1? I think. The difficulty is simply increased by placing excessive amounts of zombies, ramping up their health dramatically and trapping you in tiny rooms with said amount of zombies. The nemesis is really thrilling as he's significantly more relentless than Mr X, until he just turns into an extremely generic monster that roars a lot for the rest of the game, which really takes away any tension he can build up.

I'm not sure what happened to the story, as it seems most of it got removed from the original to the point where character motivations make absolutely no sense. Just generally bad writing that left me in fits of laughter in the final scene of the game instead of taking the situation seriously.

There can also be many situations in which the game just outright feels unfair. You'll often dodge but it feels extremely random if it works or not, even with plenty of practice. Sometimes you'll dodge only to watch that zombie still lunging as it magically slides across the floor without moving its feet another meter and grabs you. Others can simply result in pure stun locks. One boss for me opened with an unavoidable stunning attack. It rushed me before the stun wore off, hit me to which i was stuck as i was unable to move out of the spawning point. It then knocked me down, hit me as soon as my character stood up, then did this again to kill me. Losing the boss fight before i had at any point been given control of my actual character.

Overall, it's not a bad game. It's perfectly... fineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.... with some frustrating bits but most people were expecting better than just fine. Especially when 2 knocked it out of the park. I feel they should have focused on the first half of the game so much more than the second. Either way, pick it up while it's on sale. It's a decent game but truthfully unless you want new visuals, just go replay 2 for a better experience.
