Early Access Review
It's Evolve meets L4D. Pretty fun, hard to find people sometimes but you can launch and progress solo.

Storyline has such great potential, but it's half assed. It isn't terrible, but not great. Thankfully everything else about this game(minus coop popularity) makes up for it. Customization, combat pace, very satisfying game to play.

I did not get this game on sale, but I don't regret paying full price. I wouldn't personally say the content available is worth $60USD but hopefully future content changes my opinion.

Didn't play for two years. Came back to a 15 year ban.

TLDR: Same GW502 BS as Gears 4. They never tried to optimize or fix it on 4, go figure it doesn't get fixed on 5.

If you're still using an aging rig and any 10 series Nvidia card, stay away. Although not super old 10 series do fairly well for the games I play. I ran campaign all the way to Act III with the graphics set decently(High character detail, Shadows off, everything else on medium-ish settings). Game looked great, I got an occasional GW502 Graphics card stopped responding crash(1 in Act I, 1 in Act II), kept going.

The cutscene for Act III Turntable would drop my card 100% every time. Waited a day for 'Gears 5 drivers', still nothing. Had to drop everything to Off/Low to continue and still got GW502 every half hour or so.

♥♥♥♥, I've even gotten it sitting at the Menu.

Campaign was a little underwhelming, Horde is Horde, won't try Escape or multi since this unoptimized trash crashes like crazy. Spent too many hours trying to make it work to get a refund.

The 'old' version of this game was gold-for some. For myself, it was utter trash. Enjoyable when it worked, but that was rare. Never had the game itself not function but the optimization was, just not there. I've loved 40k since I discovered it at a local hobby shop pre-my first dialup computer, and it hurt not being able to love this game the same(particularly after how disappointing Eternal Crusade is).

Enhanced edition has worked out major issues in it's coding mess that has completly taken me by surprise. I don't really care for shadows so I normally turn them off in every game, and I'm otherwise running max graphics with an aged rig and zero problems.

The customization is a breath of fresh air, and while I understand implementing a progression system where previously there was none, means everyone start's out at square one, having slugged through this game since it launched, I'm not in any rush to explore much of it yet.

TLDR: Worth a buy

Early Access Review
TLDR Review- 8/10 for an Alpha. Very Promising.
If you're looking to BUY this game, don't. It's an alpha through and through.
As a game it's not worth 50 bucks and it doesn't deserve your narrow minded negative review about how unfinished or sloppy this game is. HOWEVER
As an investment it IS worth 50 bucks. Probably one of the most polished titles I've personally handled through Early Access.
The Learning curve is a little steep but lets be honest.. After DoW3 and Eternal Crusade, this is a much needed breath of fresh air for the IP.

2018 Update

I've had several friends ask about this game now that it's been getting publicity.
Yes I still recommend it. Probably even more now than I did originally.

The studio has done much to improve not only the experience when playing, but also optimization with the engine. With much of the environment being destructible, the early days of Alpha were sluggish for me. Now it's smoothe and fluid-like.

My only warning is they still whipe character progression at major updates. And not being around during busier hours to enjoy the co-op.

I get to fly this dildo shaped Battlestar armed with guns that an adopted cerebral palsy child with no fingers could still aim effectively.

It's alright.

Was pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome my first playthrough.

Then when I tried to go through it a secondtime it became god ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful. Loading Trial by Fire causes immediate Crash to Desktop. Trying to activate my focus ability(Q) immediatly causes CTD. Just...If you want to give it a try, go for it. But you've been warned.

This is only my review though, but my review says this console port can GO ♥♥♥♥ ITSELF until it's fixed.

Hawken has provided a healthy flashback to my old Chromehound days on the 360, providing a new(albeit untapped) potential to the mech shooter genre. Customizations are a little stale in terms of choices-but there is a lot to customize. As an Early Access this title seems promising and the fact that it's free means anyone will certainly get their moneys worth.
