Everything I've come to expect from Ace Combat, great vistas (When you can take a moment from the action to look at it), high speed action, and variable engagement options. The list of aircraft is shorter than some other AC titles but still has enough aircraft of varying design to work with virtually anyone's method of dogfighting.

We won't compare this to AC5 as that would be unfair to AC7 but it does remove the dogfight mode from AC assault horizon (which is a good thing as it caused a lot of problems, up to and including dumping you face first into the ground if it broke off too soon).

The story arc is interesting and the voice acting is about the usual. They do most of the story telling through a narrator, which is par for the course here and reduces the appearance of on screen talking (something they have had trouble syncing in the past with the animations).

The scenery is beautiful (Just don't get too close to the ground, trees are great but ground detail was sacrificed for FPS). I highly recommend doing the free flight missions just to look at the detail they put into the terrain, which is hard to appreciate at mach 2.

All and all it's everything I've come to expect from the title and they have returned to the system that made the games enjoyable. The key thing to remember with the AC titles (Not including Assault Horizon) is that they occur in a different universe, and it's an arcade style flight game. It isn't intended to reflect our reality or our physics.

TL:DR I highly recommend this game if you are looking for an arcade style dogfighter. Beautiful scenery.

Another key thing to remember is that this is a port from a console. For those trying to use flight sticks for this, there is no current game support for them. There is a way to get them to work however.
