I'll be honest, not a fan. I like these platformers, like Diablo and such. This one just feels difficult to enjoy unless you're really into strategy and understand all the character attributes. To me, that type of learning curve is discouraging but I know there are others who relish in it and respect that. There is fun to be had, for sure. But until you come up with a game plan for your character and how it interacts with others, you'll be pounding your head on the keyboard. Graphics are OK and game mechanics don't take long to figure out. About what you'd expect from a mod turned game. Worth the FREE price tag.

The game I want to love. There's a lot of potential here. I played the original Destruction Derby series games to no end and this keeps that heart beating strong. The car deformation is really great and these guys have done tremendous work perfecting it. The racing is also chaotic and the particle effects/destructibility of the courses is impressive. You don't need a powerful machine to run it but it helps to keep things smooth. Still very much a beta (or alpha?) game, but they have made massive strides so far. The updates are a bit few and far between but they are consistent. I think the vision is there. I hope they can keep plugging away and really develop a strong smasher!

A unique and buggy take on medieval combat. Making all the mouse functions your various slashing and blocking was ingenious. The whole battle mechanic is actually well done. The graphics on the Unity engine look good enough and the ability to hack limbs and bits off of people is great. The sounds are something that's VERY well done. So few games pull off believable dying sounds (CS:Source anyone?). And when you're on a killing spree, you really feel unstoppable. The biggest drawback is the coding in general. There feels like there's a ton of optimization that needs to be done for this to be a competent title, particularly with bots. Battles are great, plenty of modes to keep interest. I just wish there was a little more polish. If you can get it for a few bucks, it's totally worth it. Otherwise, wait for a sale.

A buggy platform that still manages to provide a fun experience, even with a focus on melee vs. ballistics. The open world is fun but the overall mechanics take some patience to get a handle on. Some mechanics (like the plot) are sub par but you manage to work around them. What I like most is the grubby nature of everything. Lots of rust and macabre. It sits nicely in juxtaposition to the tropical paradise you're in. The story is rather flat, as hard as they try to make it interesting. The player does have some choice and there are plenty of silly side quests to keep you busy if you're bored. I will say I had a good time playing with friends, enough so that I'd be willing to try out some of the newer off shoots of the series.

The squeal comes with many improvements. The interface and graphics are neatly touched up. Game play elements and mechanics are tighter and more responsive. Body parts blow away and it's satisfying to cut through hordes of badies. Still, it's easy to lose track of yourself in some more congested fights. The maps are so big now, you can easily get separated from the group (also making it more interesting). Trader buying could be smoother with shortcut keys but the overall organization by perks is a welcome change. Speaking of, the perks are much more interesting now and have taken a cue from Payday, allowing the player some options at each tier (a Would-You-Rather type of choosing). You still get some lagging on servers which can be frustrating at times but typical battles are untroubled. Starting matches with friends is easy although I'd like to see an option to host private matches without a dedicated, like in the old days. There's a little more feedback when downloading custom content from a server you're joining: Now a % complete number, even though it's only for individual items and not the overall download. That said, these generally go faster than in the past. could change. Monsters are a lot harder to kill unless you're on an easier setting or have high perks (this is a good thing). Of course, the old British wit and humor still live on. Cracking!

I've tried pCars, rfactor1&2, iRacing and tons of other sim titles out there and Assetto Corsa rises to the top as one of the best available. It is a true sim yet it still tries to appease certain aspects of the general racing community by offering different levels of achievements. Good or bad, it doesn't alienate itself. The driving experience is pure. It has been a long time since I felt like I had to stay up on the wheel down a straight away because of how bumpy the road was. The FFB is great, right out of the box. Setting up a race is very straight forward. Visually, it has a lot going for it but this could be improved over time. It is sad that there is no actual night cycle yet because Kunos has elected to not have more point lighting. Nor do they have any weather effects! This, to me, was one of the biggest shortcomings of the sim since these are two very major components of real road racing. But the core of the racing is still there. The online community could still stand to grow for spot races, though communities/leagues are doing well with keeping things going, as with rFactor and others. While offline, the AI do their best to be decent competitors but there's still a lot of work to do with their code before they are even close to NR2K3 standards (that's kind of sad). Online, the net code is very good and while everyone has even a decent connection, things run smooth and close battles can rage without concern for tunneling. The damage modeling needs more work in both the visuals and mechanics. Kunos has acknowledged many of the shortcomings I've mentioned and are doing their best to address with the small team they have. I believe their approach by using the DLC "Dream packs" is a good one. The cars and tracks are very professional and worth the asking price. This was a smart way to earn more income to continue development of a solid platform without requiring an obtrusive subscription service like iRacing. And they totally cater to the modding community which has done some exceptional work so far. I greatly anticipate Assetto Corsa's continued development to stay up as one of the premier racing titles in the market.

Do you like to die? Well, RE6 will grant your wish. I've never played a game where it was so easy to get killed. Not just through the typical action but from the generously peppered "reflex events" or whatever you call them where you have to mash buttons at specific times or suffer dire consequences. The visuals and big-world feel are all there, even though you are mostly on rails the whole time from point to point. The monsters definitely feel dangerous and the environments are classic RE, just scaled up. The plot is decent and easy enough to follow, though neophytes to the series may be lost on who some of these people are and why they should care. Even still, there's lots of action to be had and the ability to control your character in agile ways keeps things exciting, especially in fast paced, close-quartered combat. And the dying again. As frustrating as it is to get killed (which happens 1000x more when playing multiplayer) the death scenes are fairly gruesome and well done, actually worth watching.

It just keeps getting better. Everything from making your avatar ridiculous to behaving ridiculously to having a dub step gun makes this game amazing. It shines graphically and has an interesting (if rather comical) plot. Seeing the series evolve from the start has been interesting since it began as a brawler with more serious goals and then turned into "We're so badass, we don't care that we're naked. Pass me that hooker". The game mechanics are very smooth and enjoyable, never preventing you from doing what you want or need to. The introduction of different super powers was also a nice twist. Open world gameplay with a mass of things that can be destroyed has been a breath of fresh air. If these guys and the Just Cause people could figure out how to let you take down buildings, we'd be on the right track. Tons of fun and lots of replay value, especially for the multiplayer. I hope we can have up to 4 players in the next one.

The first true lord of RTS. The top-down-war studio that started the revolution with Total Annihilation took it to a whole new level. The learning curve is somewhat steep but for anyone accustomed to this type of game, you'll find the innovation here to be quite intuitive. The problem with unlimited unit and building caps of course has been huge. Getting code, hardware, and just unit management to all work together has been a massive challenge and these guys have handled it quite well. There's plenty of on screen information to keep the most South Korean of players up to date on idle units and critical enemy movements. Being able to automate factories and units/groups AND have them actually do their work without turning into useless, drooling drones, is huge. And the biggest achievement is the galactic scale. You are truly in a solar system. Obviously a little condensed over real life, but the matches are already long enough without taking 6 months to fly to the next planet. But the landscape is truly different. Unlike StarCraft that lets players rely on building strategies around balance and deployment of unit types, PA takes it to the next level. You can truly overwhelm an enemy with masses of the weakest units. Tactics evolve and shift in ways we've never seen before. You can create all kinds of different systems to battle in. You don't need a beastly system to play but it helps as there are still plenty of optimizations that could help make the whole thing run smoother, especially with multiplayer. For a game that's not yet officially released, they have done a fantastic job in redefining the genre.

You don't own Rocket League? Do you only have an Xbox and parents who don't love you? That's what all your friends who play Rocket League are saying about you. The Psy guys definitely got the formula right on this one. Even when you start playing and suck so bad it hurts, you can't stop. And even when you get so good you could juggle the ball like a hippie hopping a hacky sack, you still are not as good as the Mt Dew doping 12 yea- olds that are handily eating your lunch and you STILL can't get enough. It's dead simple to understand and only gets better when you find yourself on a team of people who know how to play and coordinate. Always fast paced and the matches are typically quick so the ADHD part of you can enjoy and say every 5 minutes "Maybe just one more". The visuals, sound and music are all perfect. Playing with a controller or keyboard works just fine and there's barely a learning curve. The mutators were a fun inclusion but introduce so many new variables, you might find yourself quickly frustrated or overwhelmed, especially if the setup just doesn't work well. Try a few mutator matches and you'll see what I mean. My only gripe is that PC peeps can't find their PS4 pals in vise versa. Granted, the multiplayer system is very streamlined and getting into a match takes no effort. But it would be nice to somehow get my friends in Hawaii in for marathon matches. And if you like to collect things like Pokemon, there's plenty of DLC and bits to buy or find to keep your brain entertained. If you're a fan of Hockey, Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, Rollerjam, Cars, Games, Fun, Life or Paul Reiser you need Rocket League.
