While the sequel is out and far superior, there's still a lot to love about the original. It had a great formula and the modding community could create some very impressive maps and servers that are as chaotic as a Quake 3 match. As a stand alone, it still holds up but the graphics aren't going to be anything to write home about and the overall controls and response feels sluggish compared to other modern shooters. For very cheap thrills, there's not much better from a mod turned game.

One of the most frustratingly entertaining titles I've ever played. It plays to my OCD nature to collect all things while keeping me entertained with the constant bouts of destructive tendencies. The community multiplayer is great, although, I wish there could be more interaction with NPCs and destructables (that's really the point of the game). On things that can be destroyed, it seems like it's everything at first, but really only select targets, people and vehicles. It seems like a lot but once you understand what is and isn't blowupable, it gets a little dull. The plot is kind of lame with a mixed bag of voice acting. The world is pretty expansive but can be difficult to get around until you get the hang of the overall system (buying vehicles, using grapple/'chute). I desperately hope that the version 3 allows for more things to be destroyed and the community can develop an even better multi. I guess we'll see.

CS:GO Review
Overall, OK. I was excited at first but there just wasn't a lot of change to this version that made it all that great over CS:Source. Yes, graphics are better and there seems to be a lot of focus on ladder/ranked matches. Some of the game modes were a welcome change and can be a ton of fun with large groups of friends/strangers. The interface and the button layouts were and still are a pain to deal with. After every update, I constantly have to change the gamemodes.txt to allow more than a few players for on-the-fly matches. And there's a constant back-and-forth to allow private multiplayer matches to change modes from Casual to anything else. Not all of us feel like setting up a dedicated, Valve. But perhaps I'm in the minority. Regardless, if you've never played CS:Source, this may be the best FPS you've ever played on the PC. Otherwise, you might wonder what all the fuss (and asking price) was about.

It took long enough to get here and it's certainly been great to have a title that gets as messy as this one without losing its sense of humor. Few co-op multiplayers bring that element of "We need to work together or die"-ness like this one. An active modding community makes this one of the all time classics. Play Helm's Deep if you're not convinced. Fast, simple and totally reactive. The way a run-and-gun FPS should be.

Who doesn't already own this game? The definitive FPS for the PC. The first to have a somewhat realistic approach to ballistic damage and hit boxes. Plenty of rage against bots and humans for across-the-map-killing-with-a-shotgun. If you want to see some boobs? Maybe someone will spray them on the wall or make a map where you plant a bomb on one. There's plenty of community here so chances are good that both will happen. Enjoy the show.

Simple, silly and addictive. Not a lot of game modes to go through but that doesn't keep it from being likable. Bloody but not gory so it's not too scary for younger players. The multiplayer is really the drawing factor. Online can be a lot of fun but there are some glitches with proper syncing and then some phantom player models staying around in places. Worth the low price if you have friends who agree.

Overall, a fun game. You really are open to handle missions the way you want (stealth or guns blazing or both). Controls were a little tricky at first but once you get a few missions in, things are pretty smooth. Of course, the bullet time is pretty great if not THE reason to get the game. But it holds up in other areas as far as game play. The story holds up enough but isn't overly compelling. It mostly provides a reason to be in the different terrains or situations you find yourself in. All said and done, there is quite a bit of detail put into this title even though there are newer versions and mods. It's got a great multiplayer and good replayability.
