This game is the Duke Nukem Forever of the DOOM series. Very gimmicky and way too meta. It took the perfect DOOM 2016 and drove it into the ground. You're constantly stopped to get pulled into an animated tutorial or warped into a blueprint room to shoot static enemies.

This title doesn't really deserve to be in the DOOM series; unlike the action packed run and guns of the past you're now forced to conserve ammo and strategize. I didn't buy this game to get first person Resident Evil.

This game holds up but you need to install a mod to get it running smoothly on modern machines. I went with Quake 4 Hi Def and played through the whole campaign. You're looking at about 8 hours of gameplay, depending on how many secrets you hunt down. If you're a fan of id Software then you should definitely give this a try.

This game sort of holds up, assuming you install something like the Redux mod or dhewm3. On its own the game is incapable of detecting the amount of video RAM and everything looks pretty ugly.

Once that's out of the way, get ready for a bit of a departure from the Doom series with a survival-horror game where you'll constantly be swapping out the flashlight with a gun, tapping the F key over and over. There's a bunch of jump scares, and bullets are scarce, but if you're into that then this game is for you.

This game holds its own even today. The new expansion really pushes the limits of the engine; in fact, the opening level taxes my machine more than modern games. If you've played the classic version you should try the new expansions. If you've never played you should give the game that defined genre a try.

Compared to the original Quake ][, this engine revamp offers a lot of convenience like the ability to use a modern resolution. I haven't tried any of the raytracing features yet.

That said, a lot of the original physics have been broken. For example, standing on sloped surfaces is extremely buggy, and grenades can't be thrown nearly as far (though the grenade launcher doesn't have this problem). While annoying, the game is still playable.

A truly solid first person shooter. Sometimes I want a shooter where I can occasionally stop and think and get lost in menus. In those situations I reach for a game like Borderlands. Other times I just want to run and shoot. Only DOOM will suffice for that.

Ion Fury is an awesome game that introduces new gameplay concepts and goes above and beyond being a mere tribute to 2.5D shooters of the past.
