I've happily purchased this game 3 times over the 13 years it's been out. The game is great, but they changed the TOS for the game and added a kernel-level anti-cheat which collects your data. This game is not live service. It has had an active modding community for over a decade. They also aren't updating the game to fix the issue with the 32-bit PhysX while pushing the kernal-level data harvesting. It's absolutely insane the levels of stupidity it takes from a game developer to do this.

Early Access Review
I am really enjoying this so far. If you like Ember Knights or Hades then this is very much in the same vein. I think the class/weapon/spell system on this game is definitely different than any similar game I have played and I think it's fun.

This is the best game I have played in a while. For anyone who likes FPS Rougelikes, this is a fantastic game.

I have over 2,000 hours in Payday 2 so I think it's fair to say I'm a fan. I didn't know what to think about Payday 3. On one hand, it was being designed in Unreal instead of a bad game engine designed for racing games in like 2005. So I figured it would probably feel better to play and everything else would be possible to fix later.

I think the one positive is the aiming/recoil/gun handling system feels better.

I think the majority of my "in-game" hours are waiting to connect to a game server.

The movement system, while on the surface feels better, actually feels worse to me because it lost some of the advanced (unintentional) mechanics from PD2.

Stealth feels like a completely new game series instead of building on the stealth I enjoyed in PD2. Some of the new mechanics are cool, but I definitely don't feel like some sort of superhuman ninja.

I thought that one of the biggest improvements with this game would be the netcode for online communications. While it was bad in PD2, there were mods to help reduce the issues and at the end of the day it was not a deal breaker most of the time if the host had the proper mods installed. With the always online play I am finding that in every lobby I have issues with latency on gigabit fiber with a 3090Ti, 12700K, 32 Gb of RAM, m.2, etc. computer.

The perk/skill system is dumb and feels like a step backwards.

The servers were down all the time at launch.

Heist selection is stupid and requires you to select heists from an online multiplayer campaign timeline. PD2 didn't even officially have a campaign for the majority of the games lifespan. I don't like the move to force you to do a story mode.

It doesn't feel like the build theory crafting really matters that much when looking at the skills. Everything is a tiny boost to this or that, but nothing feels like a major change to how you play the game.

Overall, this game just does not have the charm of PD2 for me. It has the same theme, but it doesn't FEEL like it's related to PD2 at all for me.

Basically this game is pay to win on a magnitude you've never seen before. The game developer has been making updates to discourage you from playing with other players for years. The servers are powered by hamsters running on their wheels and if you don't live on the west coast of the US, walk away now. You have to pay $5 to change your hair, and not to another hairstyle you want, just a chance to get another random hairstyle. The rest of your outfit is also like this. You also will hit a point if you play on any server other than reboot where you will be forced to pay thousands of dollars to progress. Yes thousands PER CHARACTER. Basically this game is garbage unless you want to play pay to win simulator.

This game should be good. It got the formula right. What they didn't do right is letting cheaters ruin the game for everyone else. It also feels like your character is moving through a goo pit at all times. Skip this game.

This game has always had connection issues and been full of cosmetic microtransactions but at some point they decided to add battle cars which have scanners. So instead of navigating the map to choose your engagements and ultimately escape the island you now sneak through the island to get suddenly run over by a mad max style battle bus with a tracking feature.

Really fun game. If you want to fly around playing soccer in an airborne car, then this game will let you do that.

This is a fun game. It's had some weirdness with DLC in the past. Now that it's had it's last DLC, I think it's worth buying the ultimate edition on sale. It's a good game, and In my opinion well worth the price, but not everyone will feel that way and the ultimate edition is probably expensive if you end up not liking payday.

I played this game when it first came out and I am sure my friends and I put 500+ hours into the cracked copy we had as broke teenagers before buying the game when we could finally scrape together $50-60 for us all to buy copies on steam. I still revisit this game on occasion. It is absolutely one of the best games I have ever played. Get a group of friends together and enjoy. I would advise not looking things up too much and just explore what the game has to offer. You'll get WAY more out of it. When you get bored look up what exists and go find it. This is the kind of game where you can easily sink hundreds of hours into the game.
