echo point nova reminds me of how it felt to play games as a kid

you're not weighed down by over-complicated systems and progressions, no long cutscenes or loading screens to break the flow - gameplay is at the absolute forefront. you just fire up the game and play it.

if you've ever played arena shooters like quake or unreal tournament and wanted to know what it feels like to have that sort of mobility in vast open spaces instead of limited arena maps, this game is practically made for you.

satisfying, tight gameplay, and an atmospheric environment. i love where this game is heading and i'll be one of the first to buy the full game upon launch.

my only criticisms so far are:
1. the cutscenes could do without protagonist monologue. for a game that seems to rely primarily on conveying its story through environmental storytelling, and allowing the player to piece things together themselves, it creates the sense that the player is not one with the protagonist, as the protagonist is piecing the mystery together themselves, independently from the player. this negatively impacts immersion, at least for me. could just be me though
2. i really like some of the user interface sounds, however the visual side of the UI itself needs a lot of work. i'm assuming the UI will see major improvements in the full release though

these are very minor however, as the core game itself is brilliant.

hands down the best interpretation of the backrooms i've ever seen in a game so far.
brilliant graphics and decent sound design. the game never feels repetitive as you'll always reach an entirely new area before ever getting bored.

my only complaint is that the user interface needs a lot of work. it can be buggy at times, particularly when trying to switch resolution.

I used to have dreams and ambitions, but this game put them to rest.
I am now nothing more than a hollow husk of my former self. Would recommend

The best mountain climbing game I've ever played.
I might come back to this review to add more to it later.
But for now, best mountain climbing game.

10/10 still trying to beat Chapter 9

GRIS is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played.

It is a serene experience, where you see the world shift around you as you complete each chapter. It is a quiet journey for the most part, where you explore a world that represents the protagonist's inner landscape while traversing various platforming puzzles. The puzzles are relatively simple and there is no combat, this is the type of game you would relax to, rather than the sort you would seek action in.

I think that the art style alone speaks volumes about the beauty of this game, and since the gameplay is quite simple, every second will be an opportunity to admire it. The music that accompanies you throughout the game is very well done too.

So that's quite a bit of praise about this game, isn't it? What about the negatives? Honestly, there wasn't anything that stood out to me that I would rather have done differently. The only thing I would ask for is more of it, that is; the game is relatively short, taking only around 4-5hrs to complete (7hrs if you go for all the achievements).

tl;dr - It is a beautiful hand-drawn platformer with light puzzles, absolutely worth it.

Splitgate is a sort of modernised arena shooter. It's a combination of Halo, Portal, and Unreal Tournament, with a bit of customisation (skins and such) thrown in. Overall it's very fun.
