Really cool Metroidvania with some influences of Mega Man, Blaster Master, and palette-swapping like Downwell.

You play as Kiki, an adorable cat who's crash-landed with their human companion on a space station.
Kiki can jump and climb walls (and meow), but will die if any enemy hits them. However, shortly Kiki gets a mech suit and gains some classic Metroid abilities.

A fair amount of the gameplay involves switching between controlling Kiki alone or piloting the mech. I found this to be a really cool mechanic and allows for some solid gameplay variety. You also get to pilot a submarine, which is great fun as well. Parts that require Kiki to navigate enemies really ramp up the tension due to the one-hit-deaths.

The game isn't particularly challenging, but a few of the boss fights had me struggling. One thing I appreciated about the map design is that it wasn't incredibly difficult to find all the upgrades. I tend not to like 2D Metroid games too much because I feel the upgrades are too hidden. By comparison, this game has some visual cue of where secret rooms are and how to access them. I'd definitely recommend getting all the upgrades as it makes the game more fun to play, in my opinion.

All in all if you like Metroidvanias and/or mechs and/or cats, I highly recommend this game.

Made physical my dump stat. Had a heart attack and died while reaching for my tie in the first room of the game.

A very unique concept that works surprisingly well.

It's a card game mixed with Choose Your Own Adventure mixed with a modern action game.

You choose a deck of cards that contain equipment and scenarios. You'll then be dealt cards that you can act upon. It could be new equipment or items. Most often though, you'll get a scenario where you'll need to choose what to do. Your actions determine the events that unfold, and from there the rewards you get.

If a scenario leads you into combat, you'll fight in the style of the Arkham games to defeat standard foes and bosses.

It all works really well, and effectively feeds into a "one more run" mentality.

This is a great game with interesting mechanics and a nice progression system.

You're a single plane blowing up other planes, boats, submarines, blimps, etc. You use one key to shoot, one to boost/thrust, and two keys to rotate left and right.
The controls can take some getting used to as they're basically "tank"/Asteroids controls. At first they don't feel very tight because you can only move by rotating the plane and pressing up to thrust. Once you get used to them though, the controls are alright.

You can customize your plane's gun, body, and engine. You'll soon find favorite combinations, but the challenges to unlock more parts encourages experimenting with other loadouts.

The game also has palette swaps and great music.

Overall it's a great game, albeit with a bit of a learning curve for the controls.

I can't believe that after over 250 hours I still hadn't written a review for this masterpiece of a game.

Years after release, it's still getting new content and becoming more awesome all the time.

The art style is excellent. Multiplayer is easy to setup and makes the game even better. The music is great. The bosses are excellent.

There are RPG elements and character progression. But it's extremely modular. If you want to play as a melee character, go for it. Just get the equipment and you're there. You want to switch to being a summoner? No big deal, switch out your equipment and you're ready to go.

This game is awesome. All your friends probably have it. If you're still reading this review, just scroll up and buy the game.
Worth. Every. Cent.

It's hard to say what makes this game enjoyable, but somehow, it really is. It's infectious. You can dominate your delivery objectives, and you'll love it. You can fail your objectives miserably, and you'll love it. You drive, and it's great. Buy it.
