The key to a good metroidvania is to make the backtracking progressively more convenient with endgame traversal being effortless. This game nails it and is a huge step up from Risky's Revenge. Good level design, music, and comedy. Definitely worth a playthrough if you have any love for the genre.

It's big Dark Souls, and that's all I've ever wanted.

I suppose I can forgive the game for being unfairly difficult, perhaps even artificially so... but I cannot forgive how slow the game is.

In a game where you're expected to die a lot, slowness is a grave sin.

The main character IS cute though...

I've never had such a strong connection with a main character before.
A truly excellent portrayal of brutal realism.
In a word: visceral.

This game was challenging, but never so difficult that I wanted to stop playing.
Looked great, sounded great.
Great game!

I missed one little step in the last level and it took me like 3 hours to figure out.

10/10 would pull my hair out again.
