I'm playing on a PC that barely reaches the recommended specs (geforce 1070, I7 7700, 16gb DDR4).

The game is running on 1080p with every graphics setting set to high, except for motion blur, depth of field which are set to OFF and SSAO to medium.

FPS is 60 stable in dungeons, bosses and small areas and between 50 and 60 on the open world. The slight FPS drop is more noticeable when the game is loading assets, other than that it runs at 60 FPS most of the time.

How do people with high end PCs have problems is something I don't understand. I'm willing to bet that it's a mix of outdated drivers, apps running in the background and lack of knowledge about PCs and their configuration/general maintenance.

It's an improvement over Nioh 1, which is a great game already.

Some people seem to be experiencing FPS drops, but I can run the game on stable 60fps on my very dated PC.
i7-7700, 16gb DDR4, geforce 1070 and the game installed on an SSD.
The game is running on 1080p with motion blur off (I hate it) and more importantly, effects on low. The rest on high.
It seems like the effects might be bugged or poorly optimized, setting them to low barely makes a difference visually but it has a huge impact on performance.

Many of the negative reviews are about the lack of keyboard prompts, which is a valid complaint but I don't think it is such a big deal, at least not enough for a negative review.

Edit: Spelling.

I don't usually write reviews but I'm doing this to address the review bombing the game is getting.

The main points:
  • DRM on top of DRM on top of DRM:
This is by far the most mentioned problem with the game. The game uses the infamous Denuvo and is bundled with uPlay.
I understand that this practice is anti consumer and doesn't stop piracy (the game was pirated within a day, like other Denuvo protected games). But for all the bad publicity Denuvo has, I have never been affected by it (I played a few Denuvo protected games and had 0 issues). Same with uPlay. Having to log in to yet another platform is annoying, but I only did it once and now whenever I play a game with uPlay it logs automatically. I just "waste" a few seconds while it connects.

  • OMG DAY 1 DLC! THE B*STARDS!
...It's just 2 costumes and 2 artifacts. People make it seem like "they sell the game in pieces". There is no game content behind a paywall. The DLC is completely optional and you won't miss on anything if you don't buy it.

  • The game price
Review bombers say it's $100. It's not. The game is $60. You have the OPTION to pay for a largely irrelevant day 1 DLC or a season pass for EXTRA CONTENT to be released in the future.
They say it's unacceptable to price a game like this but they fail to mention 2 key points:
    1. It's optional extra content, the game isn't incomplete and sold in pieces
    2. The price of games has remained $60 for ages. The price didn't change with inflation. You know what DOES change with inflation? pretty much everything else. Including game development. Yeah, believe it or not, game development DOES cost money, the people working to make it get paid and their salaries increase with inflation over the years. I have been in software development for over a decade (both games and other software) and I KNOW it's not cheap.
TL;DR
In my opinion, people are review bombing the game on principle alone, and while there's nothing wrong with having principles, I don't think this is the solution.

EDIT: A couple of typing and formatting errors.

Disappointing and mediocre.

It's not a Mega man succesor, it's a speedrunning game.

If you want a Mega man-esque game, go for 20xx, if you want a speedrunning game, go for Dust Force.

The forums are full of stockholm syndrome sufferers, you can see there a big thread dedicated to the First stage of Grief, Denial.

The game in a nutshell:

*Miss*
*Miss*
*Miss*

**Dead**

Buy a couple of dice. It will be cheaper and WAY more fun than this game.
And the chances of getting a desired number on said dice are accurate, as oppossed to this game's RNG.

RNG (random number generator) is an important part in roguelikes. It's not, however, the ONLY meaningful part.
This is the game's worst sin. it's completely random. In good roguelikes, there's a lot of strategy and thought. Randomness can screw you up, but usually, a good player can turn the tides.
Not in hack, slash, loot. Frankly it's like someone saw the success of rogue-lites and jumped the wagon without actual knowledge of what makes a roguelike/lite a good game.

Protip: it's NOT randomness what makes a roguelike good. Randomness is just one of the ingredients.

A broken piece of ♥♥♥♥. Good thing I got it on a bundle.

Steam should NOT allow completely broken games to be sold on their platform.

Depression Quest does a good job at explaining what it is to be depressed, I can easily relate to it being a depressive person myself and expresess things I didn't know how to express when explaining depression to someone who doesn't suffer from it.

However It does not do a good job at being a video game. it could easily be a blog or a novel, but as a game it's not more than a "Choose your own adventure" book.
