I never played the first one. I got this game because a friend was excited about it and wanted to play. I have to say it has been way above my admittedly mediocre expectations. Gameplay is fun and has a casual learning curve. Tons of variability in the kit you can take and ways to approach. What really blew me away is the different terrain, snow and mud slow you down and feel realistic. Very fun casual group game.

Great retro style shmup! Fantastic visuals, amazing sound track, and familiar but new and interesting gameplay. It has a ton a replay-ability because the levels are always slightly randomized and there are tons of variations on the levels and bosses.
