A wonderful take on a charming life simulator that doesn't take itself too seriously, set in the summer of 1995 Finland.

Dropped into a reality that might resemble one of your own as a youngster (at least parts of it heavily reminded me of my own, growing up poor in a small village living off of farming, chasing many of the same hobbies).

Your main objective and source of entertainment (but absolutely not only), will be fixing your dads old junkyard car. You do not have to be a gear head to find enjoyment in the rather cathartic process, it is much more of a hobby kit for a age 9+ kid, but dad better read the instructions to make sure everything works properly.

If you find zero value in the car process, you can take part of day to day life, helping your neighbours and family with odds and ends.

Charming at its core, and that is such a hard aspect to capture for most games that end up feeling soulless.

There are so many unnecessarily frustrating bugs with the game, like physics making your car do circles in your garage after you properly jack up the vehicle to remove the tire, essentially ruining your mortal life save game after 20 hours (playing it vanilla, not using 3rd party save editors to fix the game ruining bugs).

There is so much potential for masterclass level of playable art in a video game form, here.

Lovely little puzzle style city builder-esque game.

The "puzzle" mechanics are based on matching your tiles, which you will naturally want to accomplish for aesthetic purposes.
You will not be overwhelmed with pressure and mechanics, simplistic and relaxing game play.

Fantastic problem solving, survival style colony builder.

Unlike traditional colony builders, your big focus areas are not on combat or trading, the focus is on the many logistic style problems you will face to complete your objective.

There are many tools at the players disposal to complete said objective as well, from logic gates to using the games physics in your favour. The beauty in using said tools is, it is up to the players discretion. You can have incredibly elegant automated systems, or follow the K.I.S.S. methods, and both will leave you feeling like a clever engineer, and accomplished in this world.

A cherry on top, you get to enjoy the fruits of your labour with Klei's lovely art style.

One definitive downside though, its hard to feel the same attachment to the characters as you would in other story based colony builders, but there isn't a evolving story or interlocked atmosphere with the astronauts (characters), currently. It's about the work and logistics as a disconnected overlord.

Each player will look upon that differently, but the larger appeal is most definitely a character driven story environment.

You will fail, you must learn and adapt.
