It has been many years since this game had been released and one may ask: 'Is it still worth playing?". The short answer is "yes", but there is much more to be said!
The story begins with one of our protagonists commiting an unconscious murder. The other characters we play as are the police team trying to catch the murderer. Actually, everyone wants to understand why did they killing take place. The atmosphere during the first part of the game is exceptionally good while generally being quite mundane - harsh winter and some New York locals and apartments. This part also has the best audios, while later they are that noticeable. The characters are likeable, the story is involving.
While middle part of the game lays foundation for bringing our characters together and uses only some occultist themes and mad visions as the supernatural, in the final part the protagonist goes Matrix full-scale. There are also some major setting changes throughout the story, which could have been impressive to had been implemented at the time the game was released, but they really break the fine New York setting. Nonetheless, the story is involving right to the end.
Combat and some other activities take the form of QTE, which can get hard at times. Other gameplay mechanics involve quick fingers or divided attention. There is a counter for a charater's mental state and when it hits zero the game is over. I got it once by accident, but generally it poses little threat. The fun part about it is the ways you can gain points. Common ways include drinking water, peeing or talking to a friend, but you can also have sex for a massive gain.
I like that there is only one jump-scare in the game and it works fine. I find the choices you can make well done; I have only finished the game once, but at least they seem like you actually shape the story. Some complex plot points are well justified and the ones that aren't, are not so noticeable. There are some funny moments that will cacht you off-guard and it's also quite amusing.
I didn't like that the playable characters have little variety of clothing. I didn't like the characters and their cars doing just fine during deadly -50 degrees Celsius. One sex scene involved dragging your mouse at the right moment and it was cringy. Also, romantic relationship between playable characters was forced or I had missed something.
No major technical problems to this game. It crashed once and bugged once as I was playing, but it seems it was just random.
To state it one more time: yes, Fahrenheit is still worth playing. Especially if you aim to play it only once, there is little to disappoint you, much to make you love it.
