10/10
Pros: in-depth immersive RPG that doesn't hold your hand and has a brilliantly dopamine inducing gameplay loop of questing, leveling, and plot progression

Cons: this game WILL eat all of your free time (Drova Addiction is no joke kids)

Decided to finally leave this recommendation after 420 hours in the game, cuz the memes. In short: project zomboid is worth your time. If you want to play an actual apocalypse, this is the game for you. It is one of the ultimate story generators, right up there with rimworld. I love playing as a random character, role playing them, and creating a unique story. If that's not your cup of tea, the constant development, active multiplayer and modding communities, and extreme customizability of the game should make the game worth it for you, no matter your preferred play

This game scratches an itch that I've had for a long time. This is precisely the sort of simple, straight forward, yet wildly addicting game that you can play in the background while listening to music, a podcast, or talking with your friends. It doesn't require all of your attention, but it basically feels like a direct serotonin injection to the brain. Not too mention that it's only three dollars....just buy it, you won't regret it.

I ADORE this game. Like so many others, I started playing this game as a space enthusiast and quickly learned (through a lot of explosions and attempts) the basics. I am nowhere near being "amazing" at this game. But, it is an absolute (forgive my pun) BLAST to play, and even educational. To anyone who is thinking "It looks hard", don't worry, we all started there! If any game deserves to be in your library, it is this one!

I love strategy games, I really do. And I've been searching for a "dungeon designer" type game for a LONG time. If you are considering this game because you like the idea of making a complex dungeon which you can use to lure in heroes and kill them brutally, then stop considering this game and look elsewhere. The problem with this game, fundamentally, is that it feels more like an introduction to the concept than an actual dungeon designer. The campaign is basically a tutorial, and the multiplayer is rather borish. Here is a rough break down:

Pros:

-Relativley comedic commentary

-Aesthetically pleasing visuals

Cons:

-story lacked depth (not that I was looking for a story, but still)

-in an attempt to make the game a sarcastic commentary on cliches in the fantasy genre, it ended up becoming almost exactly what it was trying to avoid: a cliche fantasy game which attempts to be "self-aware" and ends up just falling flat

-the dungeon designing is NOT INVOLVED OR INTERESTING. Don't get me wrong, at first you will be giddy with how easy the interface is to use and how fun it is to choose the most basic layout possible. But that's it. The dungeon is only there for grinding and has no real strategy involved. Pretty much, you set traps, and thats it for the heroes. Everything else is about mining and making random resources you can use. That would be fine- if you could do anything with the resources. The resources are used to build traps and add to your overall "loot". I wanted a game in which I could design a duneon to test heroes (almost like a DM in DnD). Instead, the dungeon building mechanic left me feeling disapointed at wasted potential and broken dreams.

-Campaign: Have I mentioned that I find the campaign annoying? You grind for resources in your dungeon and then you attack the overworld with your troops. I don't mean complex strategy attacks either, just point and click. This game is in that awful middle between what I would call a "brain dead game" (where you play it when sleep deprived or just looking for some popcorn material) and a strategy game meant for eight year olds. Seriously, I couldn't turn on my brain without wanting to quit the game. The problem there, is that if you don't use a miniscule amount of pre-thinking, you end up getting attacked simultaneously in your dungeon and in the overworld. Understand- no matter how incompitent you are, this will not even remotley hurt you. You could quite literally, let a monkey plan your next move, and you would still get off relativley unscathed. BUT the game does yell at you to deal with the problem as if you were too mentally deficient to notice that your dungeon was under attack. Which, is impossible, because the only even slightly interesting thing to watch, is your dungeon. Watching the overworld is worse than watching paint dry. When watching paint dry, at least something occasionally happens. In the overworld, it is a bright, colorful, town-ish, irritating, nightmare of game design. And yet, I still find myself, all the time, attacking in the overworld, only for a few stupid humans to attempt to break my "masterful" dungeon (literally two traps down a straight hallway to center). This is really annoying to sit through. So, once again, I find myself, unable to decide whether I should turn on my brain, and risk getting cancer before I can turn off the game, or if I should go brain dead, and allow the game to yell at me when I don't do everything exaactly as planned. The only group who would find this balance enjoyable are eight year olds. And honestly, even a lot off them would be underwhelmed by this gaming experience.

All in all, I wanted to like this game, but it just didn't have what it needed to succeed. If it were less money then maybe I'd consider letting it off the hook, but for 40$?! No, this game is not worth that. Seriously, a complete waste of money.
