Now, this game isn't entirely perfect. Even though it's been cut down, there can still be a bit of grinding for materials and such depending on how involved you make your playthrough. The sense of progression for character and weapon unlocks is weird, and you'll be barred from event items for a while. Difficulty can jump a bit from mindlessly easy to "you're going to die in 4 hits" levels of hard. The translation is.. something, and I wish they actually kept the explanation screens when you unlocked a new system, rather than just leaving you to figuring it out yourself.

Despite all that though, I still think it's a fun experience. Pretty much every sub-series (minus xOver) gets some form of representation in the game. Characters have some nice art you can admire when you select them. Getting a good combo of weapons with a character can be pretty satisfying. There's plenty of content for you to enjoy here, even if some of it feels a bit repetitive. Toss in the modding scene, which aside from doing its own new stuff like various weapons both balanced and broken, character buffs, new skins for existing characters, and some entirely new characters, they've also been restoring content lost between the jump from the Taiwan online version to Offline, like the Devil May Cry and Monster Hunter collab characters, Co-Op stages redone as playable events, and the original DNA system. It's even going as far as restoring content left unused even in Online, such as the Dual Guns weapon type that makes use of akimbo pistols for you to rain bullets on everything.

I wish the game went on sale more frequently; the $30 asking price is a bit steep for what's basically a port of a gacha game. But overall, I've had plenty of enjoyment so far from the game, both unmodded and modded. Hopefully this somehow ends in us getting a new X game, but knowing Capcom, we're probably screwed on that front..

It's a real great game once you get used to the difficulty on Afterbirth+. Yes, it's hard as balls the first few runs, but after playing it for a while, you get used to the difficulty. Sprites and animations are nice, all items you get are interesting and unique, some giving you unique benefits if you get 3 from a certain set. And with the addition of mods in AB+, it adds a lot more playability to the game, since you can have mods that adds new items, changes the graphics, or add entirely new floors with new bosses and enemies. Overall, really good game that's real fun after getting through the difficulty curve.
