I can only describe my experience with For Honor as frustrating and confusing.

The combat is nicely explained in the tutorial, but afterwards as soon as you press "Multiplayer", you get a video tutorial explaining something about troop placement, ranking, seasons, etc. At this point I've yet to play any matches and have no idea how the game even works. This ought to be left for later.

While trying to get into a party with my friend, I tried to open the Uplay overlay, but accidentally pressed the wrong button combination (SHIFT+F1 instead of SHIFT+F2). This caused me to pop into a pregame lobby, which was impossible to leave. So my friend invited me to his party, and that's how I got out. Once the match loaded, and the atrociously long pregame lobby ended, there was a small video thingy before the start of the match, and as soon as that ended, I was disconnected from the game immediately. We tried multiple times more, yet the same happened. Restarting the game finally fixed it.

Once I was finally in-game, I immediately noticed motion blur when running. I checked settings and yet motion blur was turned off. Not only that, but since I wasn't very good I died a lot, which was frustrating since the respawn times are quite long (15s) and you simply have to sit around looking at the overview of the map, and the respawn times only get longer the more you die.

Playing the game resulted multiple times in the whole enemy team ganking up on me – I didn't have a chance. Jumping from any place that was bit higher resulted in immediate death. Each side seemed to have some eye bowl, sword bowl and shield bowl. Walking up to them didn't allow me to do anything. During fights enemies seemed to "power up" or use somekind of abilities – they were listed in the pre-game lobby and the icons were in a corner, but at no point did the game explain how to use them.

That multiplayer match remained my only one.

After recently having been taken over by Deca Games it's better than ever. There are still some annoying bugs, but the new developers are much more responsive, more caring about feedback and they seem to be trying to at least fix the problems that there are with the game.
The only hindrance currently is the use of ancient technology like Flash. Hopefully this will be replaced eventually.

The game does still stand as a great game, even after having played it on-off for almost 5 years.
Though at some point you might want to spend some money to better your experience. Do note that this game is absolutely playable without paying money, just it makes it a bit easier.
I recommend to give it a try!
