This DLC is exactly what it needed to be.
Some complain about the story being too seperate, or feeling too different from the base game. Firstly, did you finish it before saying it was too seperate? Secondly, it is fine for things to feel different here. Not only does the main mechanic, light work similarly enough to the base game to feel the same, but also different alien species would have drastically different tech, AND on top of that the mechanics of the base game were explored and flushed out thoroughly.

The DLC provides another thread to pull and makes Outer Wilds just have THAT much more mind-bending, brain-power increasing puzzles and rules to solve.

• Some very needed mechanics to deal with stealth sections aren't taught, but must be learned through trial and error, which can be irritating

It's not for everyone
Outer Wilds isn't for everyone.
It doesn't give tutorials in the normal sense; it doesn't give waypoints; hell it doesn't even give objectives. Everything is YOU driven. You push to learn how to do something. You drive yourself to learn how to go somewhere. YOU create your own objectives based on what you've learned and are interested in.
Not everyone likes/has the time for that type of game, and that's fine.

But if you're interested...
don't look anything about the game/DLC up. Take the plunge on both the base game and the DLC and dive in head-first. You won't regret it.
