A fun map that's getting review bombed by lots of dumbasses

It's funny how people who already know that the map reuses multiple buildings and is partially a copy of Tanoa still go ahead and buy the DLC—just to leave a negative review. And it's not an exaggeration to say that many of the negative reviews focus solely on the supposed lack of new content in the map. If you're looking for more constructive feedback that could actually help the devs improve the map, I suggest paying attention to reviews that highlight what's present in the game rather than dwelling on what's not.
If you dislike this "copied" map so much and are tired of the devs not adding "new content," then why not just move on to other games instead of hurting the DayZ community? No one is forcing you to buy anything.

Also, after 11 years, with only one other DLC released before this one, you’re just now complaining about the lack of new content? Where were all these complaints over the past decade? It seems to me that most of the negative reviews come from people who have only recently started playing DayZ. Veteran players—those who’ve been here since the beginning—rarely, if ever, complain about reused content. Why is it always the newcomers, the ones who barely understand the game, who have the loudest opinions?

And for those complaining about the price—what, did the DLC cut into your weekly McDonald's budget?

Personally, I love the map. The environment is immersive, the action is intense, the bunker quest is a fun addition, the POIs are engaging, and the freezing cold weather adds a new layer of challenge. Sure, I've played Tanoa in Arma 3 and have seen the original buildings from the DayZ mod, but I don’t care if the map borrows from Tanoa or uses older assets. I love the game and want to support it. Without support from players like me, DayZ wouldn't last.

Unlike the whiny people cluttering the review section and social media, I actually play the game to survive and enjoy myself. I’m not standing around staring at reused buildings for two hours+, writing up a negative review about "the lack of content." Nor am I stopping to hump a corner of a new building just because "the devs finally added new content." I go inside to loot or start a fire, then move on. And honestly, that’s what over 90% of players in DayZ do. Nobody spends time admiring "new content"; they're focused on surviving.

So why are there so many negative reviews about this DLC? If you don’t even care about new content when you’re playing, why is its absence suddenly a problem? If you want to whine about reused assets, maybe head over to the FIFA forums—those games are notorious for recycling content. Haven’t you seen the EA meme about "making a new FIFA game"?

I’m thankful that even after 10 years, the devs haven’t introduced microtransactions, cosmetics with "different qualities," or a subscription service. They could have turned DayZ into a cash grab with battle passes, but they haven’t. That’s why I’ll continue supporting them. Without player support, the game could easily fall into the same trap as other modern games.

How are the devs supposed to make money and keep the game alive if their second DLC ever is being review bombed? Do people think creating new maps and assets from scratch is quick and cheap? Sure, modders release content faster, but modders only have to focus on their mods, while the devs work on the entire game. They’re fixing bugs, planning updates, maintaining servers, and much more.

Let me remind you: it took the creators of Deadfall almost two years to make that map, and that was just a mod. Now imagine what the DayZ devs have to handle on top of creating new maps. If they tried to release maps with entirely new assets every time, development would take years, and the same whiny crowd would be complaining about "the game being dead" in the meantime. You can’t win with people who don’t understand how game development works.

If you’re so upset about reused content, why don’t you learn game development yourself? Make a survival game with all the fresh content you’ve ever wanted, release it, and achieve over 500,000 concurrent players. Come back here when you’ve done that.
Or are you too lazy? "Someone in the office showed someone else how to use the Editor, Round of Applause Guys,,,, Lazy.!!"

I’ll wrap this up by recommending AlwaysStreams’ recent video, DayZ is Being REVIEW BOMBED! (And blackmailed). It explains this whole situation perfectly.

In the end, reused content doesn’t ruin the game—it’s about how much you enjoy the experience. If you love DayZ for what it is, none of this "new content" whining even matters. Support the devs, or risk seeing the game you love disappear.

Footnote:
I’ve seen some of you whiny people bring up Namalsk, asking why anyone should buy this DLC when there're several free modded maps available. Seriously? First of all, one of the reviews I’m thinking of—despite receiving plenty of upvotes—was written by someone who bought the DLC just to complain about it. If you’re asking, “Why should I buy it when there are better maps out there for free?” then my question to you is: Why did you buy it in the first place just to write that review? Nobody forced you to. And that’s the issue with so many of these whiners—they spend money on something they claim not to like, just to try to influence others who are still deciding. If you didn’t like the idea of the DLC, you could’ve skipped buying it entirely and saved your money. Sure, some of you might get refunded, but even if you do, you still wasted your time, so your argument doesn’t hold much weight.

Secondly, let’s talk about Namalsk. Some of you praise it as a “better map” but conveniently forget that it also reuses old assets—it’s literally a map from Arma 2 with repurposed buildings and content. Ironically, Namalsk was created by the same person who worked on this DLC. So if reused assets are an issue with Sakhal, why aren’t they an issue with modded maps like Namalsk? And let’s not pretend that modded maps are bug-free; plenty of them, including Namalsk, have their own share of bugs—like the famous glitchy zombies. Those issues occur across the game and aren’t exclusive to any single DLC map. So why the hell are you including those bugs in a review about a map?

Lastly, the whining about pricing is ridiculous. Some of you complain that Livonia was given out for free before Sakhal launched, but let’s be real—if every map was released for free, how do you expect the devs to stay funded? Bohemia Interactive is also working on other projects, like Arma 4 and potentially DayZ 2, so they do need to generate income to keep things moving. And no, not the entire Bohemia Interactive team is working on DayZ—it’s a smaller development team, and managing finances while keeping a company stable isn’t as easy as some of you seem to think. As someone with previous experience in system development, including creating mobile apps for various clients that gather data and function as tools, I can guarantee that reusing old assets isn’t lazy—it’s simply time-efficient and cost-effective. And yet people choose to listen to these clueless whiners? When they can't even tell the difference between company and a development team? Give me a break.

I fail to see why this game is one of the most fan favorited Battlefield games. I guess the campaign is good, but multiplayer is just fiddled with key smashing tryhards who haven't done anything else with their lives but play this game for the past 8 years.

I don't know how an update can break a game so bad. I used to like the game and it was running pretty smoothly, but when I tried it again just now, things were loading much slower and the performance was a lot worse. I tried to change the graphic settings but the buttons and sliders were barely working at all. Like, I wanted to change the mouse sensitivity because I thought it was a little too high, and everytime I clicked on apply and closed the pause menu, the sens would just reset to the default value. Every time. And that's not the only weird thing. I wanted to open a container and to my surprise the pick up interface on the screen showed key "none". In fact all interactions showed none. I thought it was some bug that was caused during the loading screen, so I simply exited the game and loaded the same world. And as another surprise; I suddenly just went uncon, and my hunger and thrist showed red. How's that possible? I legit exited the game literally where I spawned in and I hadn't played on that world much at all. And the weirdness sure doesn't end there. As I click on the exit game button (so I could go back to the menu and create a new world) my game just go boom crash and the Unreal Engine crash window appears. Wtf.

So I restart the game and create a new world, just to find out that all my keybindings have been set to none, and that's why I couldn't interact with anything. Why the hell would they just unbind themselves? I also noticed that my sens was set to the value I wanted to give it earlier, and upon closing the pause menu it tried to reset itself to the default value again and even asked if I wanted to save the settings.

So I only have one question: what kind of a buggy mess has this game turned into?

The game
can be a bit fun sometimes - when there aren't key spamming tryhards around that rather camp their balls off with mines and turrets and not doing the objective, just to suck ass and have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ aim once they finally start moving, and why the ♥♥♥♥ are there minions running around with kantanas - and I also like the slow time-to-kill. The game has a good gameplay concept overall; small teams running around and depositing cash, it makes the game stand out from other first person shooters.

But...
this game is a cash grab. It sounds pretty ironic since the only objective in the game is to deposit cash, but it is the truth.
I know I know, the game is free and "the developers need to earn money somehow" etc. etc.
But all the money milking crap in this game are utterely ridiculous.

-First off, yes, there is a battlepass in the game. Should be pretty obvious since that almost every game have it nowadays. It's a nasty, annoying and stinky bug that we can't get rid of and it even makes me appreciate the bugs that I have in my own bed.
As usual, the items that you unlock with the free pass are ugly and pretty much useless -
I still haven't seen anyone use the emotes and whatever stuff you unlock, and yet those are the free items that you will get. You can of course buy the premium pass if you want to unlock the more fancy stuff, such as "epic" cosmetics, pets and other stuff. Plus outfits whose design idea were probably taken from Fortnite - at least they are on the same level of childishness.

If you do have the premium pass, then you will also be rewarded with a lot more in-game currency, called bucks or something (I didn't bother to memorise the name of it). Yep, the typical currency that locks in-game content and that you need to buy with real life money is in this game too. Shocking.
Without the premium, however, the game will only be nice enough to give you a tiny, puny amount of 375 bucks in total. And all those bucks are splitted into 5 levels, with each including 75 bucks, and they are all unlockable at a pretty high level on the pass. And believe me the battlepass progression is pretty damn slow, unless you somehow win all matches.
375 bucks is way too little to buy anything - only the premium pass itself costs 1150 bucks, a whopping 2400(!) bucks if you also want to skip 20 levels.
So, how many free passes do you need to complete before you can finally buy the premium pass without having to spend real life money? Well... with around 96 levels (why didn't they add 100 like most other devs?), I will let you people do the calculation.

-And how many bucks do you earn with the premium pass? In total you will be rewarded with 1575 bucks, including the bucks from the free levels.

-Well that should be enough to buy plenty of cosmetics, right? Wrong. Most cool stuff, like the outfits, cost well over 2000 bucks and have more or less the same price as the skipable premium pass.
Some of the currency locked items are rewarded in the premium pass, but not all. There are a ♥♥♥♥ ton of items that are locked behind the currency. It's actually crazy. And I recon that people want to save some bucks for the next premium pass, which means they will be left with puny 425 bucks to spend, and the only items that you can buy with that little are some ugly looking hats and other cheap stuff, and they are only a few.
You will have to play hard and complete another pass again if you want to buy an epic looking outfit and, at the same time, afford another premium pass.

-How about other rewards, like player levels and stuff? You can easily earn XP by playing matches and completing challenges in order to level up your profile (whatever that would be useful for) and level up your gun.

-Oh, leveling up the gun sounds cool. That means you can unlock cool attachments, right? NO!! There are zero attachments that you can put on. No scope, no muzzle, no grip to reduce the recoil, no nothing. If a gun has a scope on it then it's on it by default.
The only thing that the game lets you do is putting on some skin, decals, some animated stuff, and they are of course locked behind the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ currency. Even if you level up a gun you still have to buy the "unlocked" gun skin with bucks, and they aren't exactly cheap if I remember correctly. Literally every "customisation item" is locked behind that currency!

There is another type of currency called VR (why?) that is used to buy more guns and gadgets, but that's it. The amount of guns and gadgets for every class are also very limited, so you will quickly run out of items to buy if you play long enough.
That currency has also a max limit of 3000, meaning that you can't earn more VR if you have reached the maximum.
I would rather have no limit at all so that I can look at my hard worked VR and cry over the fact that I can't buy anything else with it.
The character customisation is pretty lame too. You can change the hair, the eyecolor, etc. but for some reason you can't change the gender of the classes (at least for what I saw), and once again pretty much every cosmetic that you can put on your character are locked behind the bought currency.

To sum it all up:
the concept is cool and I like the pace of the game, and sometimes even the gameplay. I can totally see why people would get addicted to the game, and I too would love see all this cool destruction and unique game modes in more video games.
But, overall, the developers are just trying to milk our wallets with this game. I know that you don't need to buy the cosmetics, you don't need them at all, but what's so fun about running around while wearing some basic stuff like everyone else? I think that most players want to run in cool outfits as well, they just don't want to spend any real life money on it. It feels so basic and soulless without them, it's a like a painting without paint. And I still have to meet someone who has actually bought that stuff, so how are developers expecting to earn that much money?
To me it's simply enough to just buy the whole game and maybe pay for some DLCs and bundles, but that's it. Forcing players to pay for almost all the content in the game? Jeez.
I don't know about you folks, but at least I miss the times when it was all about entertaining the players, the times when more stuff used to be unlockable for free. These days the developers are just trying to earn as much money as possible. How did that work out for the developers of Nine to Five, a free game that also focuses on 3v3v3 matches?
It is games like this that try to steal our money, just so the developers can run away with it after the game has died within a few weeks after release. The game even has only two game modes, and both of them are about depositing money. Doesn't that sound weird?

-So, my friends, I think you are better off playing Fortnite instead. At least that game offers more content. This game isn't even in early access, it seems to be a full release.

Another poorly designed game ruined by players. This game consists of a horrible combination of three playstyles: players who camp any spot they can find (such as the rooftops in ground war) and listen to loud as ♥♥♥♥ footsteps, desperate enough to get killstreaks; sweaty tryhards who cry their eyes out if they get less than 20 kills in a round; and the more calm and slow walking players who utilizes the tactical aspects of the game. These three playstyles together makes me wonder: which one is the right one for the game? Do the developers themselves even know how this game should be played? Why add so much details and functionalities when players don't pay the slightest attention to them? Every single video about this game on YouTube is full with hopeful comments, like "there doesn't seem to be that many camping spots in this game", "the footsteps audio is perfect", "this is going to be the best Call of Duty game ever", etc. Boy, if only they knew how wrong they are... And, of course, the uploader of the video is some hardcore gamer who plays this type of game for a living while getting sponsored by the publisher. Of course they make this game look easy, when in reality it's just like any other Call of Duty game, with a hideous time to kill, punishing skill-based match-making (there is no such thing as decent skill level), and other horrible yet clear flaws the uploader doesn't talk about. How well is this game working out for us casual gamers?

Another thing that I have a personal hate towards is the ground war mode. As an old Battlefield player, I just cringed my eyeballs out when I tried it. I like large scale maps and high player counts, but only three objectives? Players who camp their asses off on rooftops, just staring down the entry point, all that just to get an UAV? The term "play the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ objective" cleary isn't a thing in this mode, or in any other mode for that matter. And the vehicles? They look like a copy and paste from previous Call of Duty games and they are just sloppy made. Overall, this game is just a big joke, but that's just normal for modern Call of Duty games.
