I played chapter 4 and it was very buggy. Assets were frequently floating in the air for no reason. There were invisible walls placed in front of doors in several places, like why not just close the door lol? Sometimes the physics of interactive objects completely failed, things flying around being impossible to grab. There were multiple times you had to pull out planks from the walls, and one time a plank fell in such a way after having removed it that the second plank could not be removed. Like, the non-deterministic physics made it so I got soft-locked and had to restart... The game also crashed two times - luckily I didn't have to redo any of the more frustrating parts.

Monster behavior seemed to not work properly:
1. One of the monsters, Yarnaby, never even spawned in its main section (lol??) According to the patch notes it's supposedly fixed now, but I can't confirm.
2. One of them, Sawyer, had a mechanic you need not understand because you can just run past it. I have no idea what I was supposed to do in that section but I also completed it with no problem.
The other monsters worked but their fights were mostly frustrating and not really scary. Actually the scariest fight was with the monster that never appeared because of the tension building up lol.

There were also few "tense" sections that weren't necessarily fights with monsters, and it was sometimes very unclear what you were supposed to do in them, almost as if you were supposed to find out by trial and error. The worst part is in one of the earlier segments where a camera filter was slowly applied so the longer time you spent looking around for where to go the less you could see. The developers seemed to not be so confident in the gameplay of this section because there were several checkpoints during the segment which effectively gives you a much longer time limit. Thanks for that I guess, but I'd rather have skipped the segment entirely the way it was executed.

The puzzles were very easy, but I think that applies to a lot of modern games so take that as you will.

I haven't played any of the previous chapters by myself, I've only watched playthroughs. I thought chapter 3 looked very interesting so I was excited to try to play one of the chapters for myself, but for the most part it was a disappointment. There were some moments with great atmosphere and the story was interesting at times, but most of it was ruined by the wonky gameplay. Maybe this is just a series that's better watched than played?

Undertale is not only an amazing game from a gameplay perspective, but it's also a perfect example of how games can be as an art form. While it's mechanics are rather simple, the game still manages to be fun and challenging. It's also filled with tons of surprising and mindbending moments, detail and astounding music.

I'd recommend anyone interested in this game to look up as few spoilers as possible, it's very much worth experiencing yourself.

The only bad thing I can say about the game is what I've done within it.
It's a masterpiece, one of my favorite games of all time.
