If I was rating this game about 5 years ago I would definitely give it a thumbs up. Since Epic bought Psyonix the game has went downhill, now with the news of removing trading, It's about to be a bumpy road for epic. Right now the in-game currency is credits, it used to be keys before free to play. For a while, it was okay. I hate that they removed crates because they were a ton of fun. Lets move on from cosmetics and in game currency and move onto gameplay. The height of the game was before free to play. Rocket league was starting to boom in popularity march 2020. September came around and Psyonix & Epic announced free to play. Thousands of players ran to the scene to get in and try something new. Content creators had a massive boost in followings, the game player count reached an all time high of 147,000+ players online, and oh man were servers struggling a little that day. Speaking of servers. I think personally the servers were the best ever before Epic Games bought Psyonix, because ever since we have had promises of server fixes and all the community got was nothing except worse servers. Honestly, I would have preferred Psyonix got bought by Valve cause then we would have had our fixes, and the community would actually be heard. Epic neglected to listen to the community on Fortnite, and now they have plagued the Rocket League community. The new ranking systems is a joke, the smurfing issues in ranked is awful, and now removing trading. I feel awful for the dev team at Psyonix having to watch what they have built come down to this. I hope something happens positive in the near future that actually addresses these issues and the community can be heard, cause if not I think Rocket League will come to an end, and fairly quickly.
