had none of the account issues mentioned in other reviews, just opened the launcher, made a squeenix account and started playing
ended up going to the full version after reaching the 300k gil cap, but could have easily spent even more time on the free trial alone
also, buying the full game actually gave me 45 days for free, not 30 like the disclaimer says, since I had reached over level 30 in game which was nice

Gameplay is fine enough imo. "zzz if you're not a gooner" is how I'd put it, though its a bit more in depth than it, feels less "button mashy" and more tactical in a way.
Counterattack specifically is really good, you actually have to press the button almost perfectly when the enemy's attack is about to hit, no yellow light that you can press 3 seconds in advance here.
Tension system is a bit confusing considering you need to use it to ult, but some tension cards only work at specific tension levels, so I guess you're not supposed to ult all the time?

Gacha rates are abysmal. I will never forgive mihoyo for this, but tribe nine should have had the decency to make it better.
(EDIT) They've made changes and now dailies/achievements give more currency, step in the right direction for sure.

Gamepad controls are bad and confusing to use, I am not a fan of this "virtual mouse" system they have going on, sometimes I back out thinking it will take my cursor one level down in the same screen (for example, going from changing audio settings back to the sidebar on the left), but I back out of the entire menu. Definitely seems like a touch screen or M&K type of menu.

Thankfully the story is good, art and soundtrack are lovely, and the world looks great when you're walking around it. A lot of love was definitely put into making it look good.

Thumbs down because of the awful management this game has had:
  • horrible launch experience due to the completely unnecessary two-publisher stupidness
  • country separation [b.catgirlsare.sexy] still feels completely arbitrary (anyone who searched the game on google and clicked the first result was told the game was "not available in their country" - it was, but the other publisher's page was 5 results below...)
  • one of them delaying their release by two days (???) and not even having a twitter account up, only facebook lol.
  • rewards differing between the two publishers, making anyone forced to use the other publisher feel like they're not "important" / second-class citizens
  • gift codes being specific to each publisher to add more confusion into the fire
  • absolutely no news on the steam release until randomly getting dropped on a tuesday
  • blocking the usual way of adding a region-locked free game to your account

if there is ever a "how to kill hype for your new game", this one should be at the top - you have to be doing it intentionally to mess up this bad

The game seems good so far, I have not had any of the crashes people mention on a 6700xt. With most settings on high, at 1440p with no dynamic res, my FPS is decent (40~ in Kalm, 55-60+ in grasslands) but I understand I don't have a top-of-the-line GPU
Steam Deck notes: the fact that this runs at all on a steam deck is insane, I can reach a relatively stable 30fps in grasslands on there, wtf? gonna be perfect for grinding exploration and side quests
main thing I'm disappointed about atm is the anti aliasing options, TAA and TAAU are garbage, I would have liked to see some other options. and no FSR3? sad.
putting this on a 30% pre-order/launch discount is such a nice move by squenix

edit after finishing game:

A huge upgrade from remake. The open world exploring is so much fun and reminded me of playing through Xenoblade

The game looks really good with an FSR3 mod, TAA is garbonzo as noted before

Only issue is the sidequests - at some point you realise that the gameplay loop consists of 30 minutes of story, then 5 hours of sidequests, and repeat. A lot of the sidequests are also just really annoying and/or boring to do. My plan was to at least complete as many as I could, but in chapter 9 (Gongaga) I started to not bother with many of them and ended up just focusing on the main story

Great game, as someone going in blind without having played the OG FF7, a lot of info was confusing, and some probably flew over my head, but I'm excited to get into Rebirth after finishing this!

I really wish there was a neutral review option, because the game itself isn't bad, it's just a bit boring if you're expecting something like danganronpa. I was relatively excited to try this out once it finally released on steam, and I did give it a good few chapters and 8 hours of time - but sadly it failed to keep me interested.

The palaces are honestly a big disappointment, especially the sections where you literally just walk in a straight line for a good minute and a half while the hall changes shapes randomly. Who thought this was a good or interesting idea to have multiple times per palace?

I can't say the characters are anything to go crazy about either. They're fine, but I expect more than good enough from something like this - a lot of the time I forget who they are or what their ability was.

I'm a bit disappointed I'm dropping this, but I just don't see myself enjoying it for 20 more hours.

This game somehow runs like absolute butter on the steam deck while not using too much power and having graphics settings quite high. It's a shame that it was delisted because this is perfect for the deck

Though actually signing in to microsoft was a massive pain, didn't work in gaming mode or desktop mode, had to change to proton 7 to have the sign in page show up in desktop mode, but proton 7 crashes in gaming mode so you need to swap back to proton 9 in gaming mode... but then its smooth sailing from there

I also agree that this should have been its own DLC package and not shoved into some weird expansion pass wave with tacked on extras to justify the price. Should have been 15-20€ at max.

The Answer also is just not very fun. I loved the base game but this just didn't hit as hard as I was expecting I guess?
Also, the 2v2 fights are absolutely horrendous and I just changed my difficulty from Normal to Peaceful to beat them (and they were still annoying!)

Combining the horrible pricing strategy with the not-so-good DLC, not really worth it imo.

Peak, what an amazing collection and I'm glad I finally get to play through both of these games
While the second game did have quite a few typos, I'm sure they'll get fixed/patched later down the line.
The package was great, the cast was amazing and had some great moments. Ace Attorney is such a great series.
