This is a wonderful remastering of one of the great hidden gems of PC gaming. While it inevitably draws comparisons to the roguelikes from which it draws inspiration, I would consider it to be far closer to the Dark Souls of puzzle gaming. It is uncompromising and challenging, but ultimately perfectly fair. No information is hidden, you always know what the outcome of a decision will be, but you always find yourself learning new tips and tricks to push the game a little bit further.

Best of all, each session is 10-15 minutes, tops, so it's the perfect pallet cleanser on break at work or between gaming sessions at home.

Rimworld has a steep learning curve that almost requires you to have a second screen to search for answers to all your questions, but the payoff is one of the richest game experiences I've ever had. Rimworld is more than a series of objectives to accomplish, it's a narrative experience that invites you to become the active participant.

It's like the best parts of Left 4 Dead and Diablo had a glorious dwarven baby. The combat is visceral and chunky, the mining and exploration is thinky and the constant search better gear or new skins is compelling. If you can afford it financially, the real question is whether or not you can spare the time, because this is a truly captivating experience.

A lovely survival simulator in space. It's light on physics and realism, but manages to remain immersive and challenging.

There's no mucking about with a laborious early game or getting lost in endless caverns, just right into the fun exploring and development.

Traditional roguelike meets modern gaming sensibilities. Perma-death, randomized dungeons and plenty of fully-realized, unique classes to play. At the same time, it does away with painful inventory management, randomized scrolls and potions and the other painfully vestigal bits from the classics.
