Eh, this game is kind of a mess.
I was intrigued by the initial concept and I'm traditionally a fan of RTS or general strategy games, however the game really fails to do anything really meaningful with it. I briefly played the campaign, which was a fun little narrative thing but promptly got bored of the classic RTS sin of arbitrarily locking units behind missions and just decided to play a few skirmishes to feel the game out.
And...eh. The primary appeal of this game is that the enemy is supposed to be difficult to track, you're supposed to possibly get confused as to your own troop location which would result in further losses, more conservative gameplay, etc., but that just generally didn't happen in my playthrough. The game ultimately breaks down into fairly standard fronts, the AI moves in completely predictable ways and the enemy (because you can only play one side in this game) only have a single special unit, a sniper, which are instantly countered by helicopters of which I never lost one.
Ultimately, this strategy/simulator fails for the most fundamental reason in gaming - it's toothless. I failed to lose a single unit except in a campaign manufactured scenario. Beyond that, it's functionally inept, visually unimpressive and generally just lacks inspiration. Also, the developer has the gall to release a QOL update as DLC.

Meh.

Hey, thanks for reaching out.
A developer taking time out their schedule to respond to criticism is definitely a positive for me - and I'm not looking to arbitrarily rail against your work. However, I think your postulation that I am "Naturally Good" at your game is, frankly, kind of ridiculous. There's a lot I can go into here but to avoid becoming pedantic I'll highlight two issues with your response;


First - I think you're vastly misunderstanding your target audience, as well as your own advertising. RTS gamers tend to be older and more experienced, especially given the genre is effectively dead in the modern market.

Your advertising suggests that you're taking a new approach, that this game is purposefully meant to confuse and disorient players which again suggests that this game is tailored more towards people who are confident they could overcome such odds. Which I, personally, interpret as suggesting to be targeted towards someone who already has somewhat of an idea of what their doing within the RTS genre.


Second - Me being "Naturally Good" at your video game does not invalidate the fact that I did not have fun.

Again, I'm an older gamer by now. I'm "Naturally Good" at a lot of games. I was "Naturally Good" at Dungeon Defenders, Viva Pinata, Apex Legends, Sins of a Solar Empire, Rec Room, Guild Wars, Battlerite, to name a few. Yet, I still felt adequately challenged or at least excited by the prospect of playing those games to the point they succeeded in holding my attention for more than 2 and a half hours. Your game failed, in this regard.

I'm really not sure how to form a rebuttal to your "Please read other reviews" comment without just repeating the above point. Are you suggesting that by reading other people's accounts I will retroactively have enjoyed your game? I already read other reviews prior to purchasing the game and I didn't really think to consult them to make sure my review adhered to Ned_Ved's personal world view. Maybe reading too many reviews beforehand is what made me so naturally good at your game?

Since I've avoided being a pedant this entire response, I'll close with one last bit.
You said I "Downvoted" your game because I'm "a natural at it". Which is obviously not the case at all if you paid attention.
I "Do Not Recommend" your game, because I did not have fun.
Also, a minor quality of life patch is not worth 25% of the entry fee of what feels like barely a mobile game - and you know that.
Do better.

I've never played Beat Saber, and never really wanted to simply because Beat Saber has essentially no aesthetic. Beat Saber is blocks and 2 sticks. If I wanted something so basic I'd have stuck to OSU! and not paid $430 to duct tape a computer monitor to my face.

This game is incredible, the music is excellent, the gameplay is simple but keeps me coming back. I'm sure Beat Saber has a larger selection of songs but I'm not paying for DLC and it's not hard to have a larger selection of songs when you have no level design. This game has you dodging bullets, crouching beneath obstacles and shooting back at enemies while trying to keep a beat. It's excellent. It's a deceptively good work out that will have you so into the music you won't realize you just stayed up till 4 am clearing the entire game and then doing it again. Marvelous.

I gotta say there's some real nuts on the developers for not calling this an early access title.

Where to begin?
Let's start by saying the maps are clearly ripped from...somewhere? But the scale of the maps is absolutely not in line with the scale of the game. Even when you're extremely high up in a jet or something, the texture resolution looks worse than something I'd play on my N64. Textures aside, the size of the maps is unbelievably out of scale for a 32 vs 32 battle. It will take you literally over 5 minutes to traverse the map to get to the initial fight and then another 2-3 minutes just to get to the next point. Once the fighting has started, it's sufferable, but even then the map is so large and has so little detail you'll be hard pressed to find anything resembling cover. You'll eventually resort to hugging a 150 mile high rock that looks like it was made with Blast-Processing on the SEGA Genesis, or spending the entire match crouched down dropping sandbags producing a labyrinthine structure of chest high cover hoping David Bowie comes out of the walls and takes you away to a better ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.

Also almost every game is filled with bots.

I had a good time with this game, I'm sure I'll play more some time. But it could be a lot better. The last several updates that I've seen have done nothing to change the actual game. The most significant change has been the addition of the Steam workshop which just says to me the devs are hoping we can fix these problems now.

I might just be incapable of enjoying video games now but I think it's much more likely that "irony" is no longer a genre I enjoy.

I've tried numerous times to play this game. It's essentially a collection of mini games with other mini games being arbitrarily locked behind what I would call time gates. You have to complete all or at least most of the initial mini games to unlock the next mini game and so forth. This is a old, cheap strategy used by developers to inflate the length of time you have to play their game to make it seem like the game is larger in scale than it is. I'm not sure what most mini games in this game are like, because I had to go through the tedious and boring mini games to unlock them and frankly I'm not willing to put in that effort when I could just as easily install a game that instantly gives me access to the games I came for.

I don't know, it seems popular, I was willing to give it a shot, but it's a no from me.

This is my "I want so badly to like this game" but I just can't
It's not Real Time Strategy, it's chess. It's a precise build order and if you do not absolutely hit every single order in the correct sequence within the precise time window that it needs to go off, you lose. It's chess. It's so not-strategy, your composition is meaningless beyond unlocking the next tier and you'll just end up spamming 50 of the same unit with the occasional anti-aircraft mixed in. Where you position units is meaningless, the planets themselves offer absolutely nothing in the way of tactics, rather this is just a matter of sending wave after wave after wave of the same 2 units every single game until one of you wins. Flanking doesn't mean anything, there's no outplaying, it's just who has the higher APM. If that's the kind of "strategy" you enjoy, ok. Personally, I enjoy unit composition, actually having to outmaneuver my enemy instead of just overwhelming them with units eventually.

I've tried for years to love this game, I've tried coming back after iteration, it's simply a waste of time. Go play Company of Heroes 2.
