This action packed shooter RPG sucks you into its dark and gritty metropolis illuminated by neon where the lines between gang, police, and corporation are blurred and tragedy isn't a matter of if but when.

The game's unique aesthetic is immediately evident as you start with a robust character creator and proceed to one of three starting life paths. These life paths provide unique dialogue options throughout the game but all quickly converge to the same place leading to winding, branching story full of action, betrayal, twists, and powerful, emotional moments.

The gameplay starts out not feeling much different from games like Fallout or Elder Scrolls(Skyrim) but with the trappings of a cyberpunk future; the game is appropriately named. However, as you collect more unique weapons and load up on cybernetic body augmentations called Cyberware, the gameplay quickly grows in to a unique experience. In terms of weapons, you can blow enemies away with Power guns, charge up Tech weapons to blast enemies through cover, use Smart weapons to lock on to enemies with your shots, smash people with clubs and hammers, slice and dice them katanas, throw knives or grenades at them, or install Cyberware arm blades called Mantis Arms, power arms called Gorilla Arms, or a whip/garret like weapon called Monowire. Other Cyberware allows you to augment your body for additional defenses, to slow time, infect enemies with viruses, and more.

A few bonuses I found to be less universal is Smart weapons and the various Cyberware infections you can inflect on enemies make the game easier to play with a controller or on the Steam Deck for me than most shooters. Also, Minor side quests called NCPD Scanner Sightings make for a great time killer when riding the train for the commute.

Early Access Review
This game is a fantastic adaptation of the D&D 5E rule set to a video game. The story will have you laughing, crying, and at the edge of your seat. The gameplay is fun and it's one of the few games that I feel equally comfortable playing with mouse and keyboard or controller. Finally, the graphics, cinematic, voice overs, and music are all top notch giving you a truly cinematic gaming experience just as Larian promised.
