My Experience with Stalker 2

First of all, the developers should add an achievement called "Launched the game on the first try". I’m not sure about others, but throughout my time with the game, I managed to launch it without issues only about five times. Most of the time, it would freeze on an endless shader loading screen or crash before even loading properly.

When I finally got into the game, my initial reaction was, “Wow, the graphics are amazing, and the open world is huge!” I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and visuals. That said, my graphics card (RTX 3060) was running at a scorching 80 degrees because of it. Unfortunately, that’s where the positive impressions ended.

From there, the game turned into a bug-filled mess with constant glitches, balancing issues, and getting stuck in textures. The optimization? Let’s just say that word barely exists here. The graphics settings would reset on their own, though I admit this might be related to my hardware.

There are also countless unfinished elements. For example, mutants spawning right in front of you, and the lack of guides across the map—a feature present in previous games. Without them, trekking kilometers back and forth gets tiresome quickly. Another major issue is the so-called "realism": enemies land nearly every single shot on you from 75 meters away, effortlessly. Sure, they made it so your aim wobbles and shakes when you get hit—realistic, I get it—but then why isn’t there a prone position?

As for stealth, it’s practically nonexistent. Enemies seem to spot you from 100 meters away, even through walls, tall grass, or whatever else is supposed to obstruct their view. Then there are the crashes during both main and side quests. At some point, I started to hate this game. Playing felt like slogging through a dreaded school home work you couldn’t avoid.

The only thing that kept me going was the story—it’s genuinely good and engaging, with no complaints there. Still, as much as I wanted to support a game developed by my compatriots, I can’t give it a positive review in its current state. I sincerely hope they’ll eventually fix all the issues, polish the game, and turn it into what it was meant to be. If that day comes, I might even give it another try or check out its DLC.

For now, though, this game feels like a nightmare I’m glad is over.

My subjective review of the game:

The open world is vibrant and filled with diverse, stunning locations. Flying on a broomstick is thrilling, and the game wonderfully captures the iconic atmosphere of the Harry Potter universe. The storyline is decent and leaves hope for a potential sequel.

What I didn’t enjoy was the game’s optimization. The graphics often fluctuate between blurry and normal after entering and exiting the menu. Another disappointment was the implementation of the “Alohomora” spell. Adding lockpicking felt unnecessary. In the Harry Potter universe, locks open with a simple wave of the wand, but here I had to channel my inner locksmith to find the right combination to open doors.

Overall, I recommend the game, but I hope for future patches
