IF YOU'RE WONDERING WHETHER OR NOT YOU SHOULD GET THIS GAME:

- If you're looking for a digital art program to make digital art in, that is NOT what this game is for. I suggest using something else (but I do recommend trying the "free" version of this game, "SuchArt: Creative Space," to see for yourself)

- If you like making TRADITIONAL artwork (i.e. Painting using paint and drawing using actual pencils in the "real world") and you'd like a digital environment to make this kind of artwork in, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try the free version of this game

--- Actual Review Below ---

The biggest thing people misunderstand is the "point" of this game. It's a digital environment for making traditional artwork in. Nothing more, nothing less. I see complaints that range from "there's no undo button" to "it's ~too easy~ to get a good ~score~" and both of these kinds of reviews are missing the entire point of the game. The real world has no undo button, and the quality of a piece of artwork is subjective.

If you play the actual Story Mode (which is good, actually) it's a game about how AI Artwork is all too "perfect" and "boring" and all looks the same, and how people don't really make artwork any more. How human beings NEED to create artwork that is "bad" and "imperfect" and "unique" in order to breathe life and fresh air back into a stale, AI-dominated industry.

If you suck at art? Try the free version.
If you've never touched a pencil before? Try the free version.
If you're extremely bored and have no idea how you got here? Try the free version.
If you're already a professional artist? Try the free version.

While this game will NOT be for everyone, once I saw what this program was capable of, I could not buy this version of the game fast enough. (And I might have spent around 8 hours straight playing this game during my first sitting...)

Is it perfect? No. But is it fun and extremely charming? Yes. It's a no-muss-no-fuss "realistic" way to create paintings and drawings when I lack the money and storage space and time to clean up after myself. And I have been having a BLAST. The Story Mode is really nice for those of us who need a bit more direction, and like having prompts and inspiration and weird clients with personalities to work with. For the rest, jump into Creative Mode. (Disclaimer; I'm not a huge fan of the large, 3D paint-able objects in the Hangar -- but that will likely be a huge plus to someone else!)

Yes. If I send a client a "painting" of a wobbly line? It will probably get their approval. If I'm ever extremely short on funds, I can light a canvas on fire and sell it on the marketplace pretty quickly. The entire point of this game is to SEPARATE the idea of artwork being "good" or "bad" by the skill you have, and simply encourage people to have fun and play with all the weird (and not-so-weird) tools at their disposal. To learn what it's like to work with colors you wouldn't normally. To yeet buckets of paint onto a canvas, just to see how it looks. To try setting something on fire, just to see what happens. After all, have you SEEN the kinds of paintings people spend thousands of dollars on?

If you want a chill space to vibe and make art in that nobody else can judge, get yourself a radio from the "Home" section of the shop, grab a canvas, pick your favorite color, and just start painting. The obvious love and attention to detail the developers put into this experience had me spending long sections of time just admiring the shiny patches of paint on the wall that I'd just painted over, next to the already-dried sections that were visibly matte.

And for the record: The game has both (early/basic) VR support AND Tablet support. I use a mouse and keyboard, and that's it.

If you DO NOT feel like you're an artist, you'll probably start feeling like one as soon as you find a tool you like, and you'll have a blast.
If you DO feel like you're an artist, you probably already have an idea of which tools to try first, and will likely just enjoy the game that much faster.

Did I mention you get to pet an adorable little helper-robot? :)

9.5 / 10 for the hilarious in-game Amazon-style reviews for each art tool.
