An oft-updated roguelike (patches no less than every week in its current EA status, with both features and fixes galore) with fantastic developers at the helm and a clear vision of what they want the game to be. It can have a bit of an initial hurdle to get into since it's a bit more open than many roguelikes, especially if you decide to blindly go for some of the starting town quests immediately (which will likely kill you dead with a starting character), but read the in-game help, check out a couple of the "getting started" guides, and you'll get deep enough to learn to enjoy your stay and create the axe-murdering, enemy-freezing, tinkering furry four-armed turtle you were always meant to be.
