I'm conflcted in reviewing this game, because I both enjoy it and resent some of its features.

First, the good points:
+ Nice music
+ Fun gameplay, has a nice flow to it
+ Love the variety of spells and possibilities for spell combos
+ The narrative is neat and has entertaining humor and characters
+ Pretty artwork, and solid-looking characters

Now the not-so-good:
- Not much song variety. New levels and challenges for unlocking spells tend to recycle songs from previous levels.
- Item crafting is done by sacrificing some exp. This in itself isnt horrible, but when paired with the tiny song selection, repeating the same fights over and over again to craft your armor and weapons and keys to unlock the next level all while trying to maintain a level that allows you to continue playing comfortably becomes tedious.
- In short, grinding becomes pretty much mandatory.
- Not much selection in craftable weapons and armor. Each level supplies you with crafting recipes for one armor and weapon item at its beginning. Additional items can sometimes be dropped by enemies, but I have rarely found these helpful. When I saw the crafting screens in the trailer, I was hoping there would be more variety in items for the player; a build with a ton of attack and no defense, or a ton of mana but not much health would be interesting challenges to make repeating songs less tedious.

Additionally, controllers are supported by the game, but only 360 controllers as of right now. I used the program ds4windows to make my ps4 controller compatible with it (running on Win8.1), and I have seen others find supporting programs for different controllers. Using a controller makes for comfortable gameplay.

Overall, I'm not sure I whether I would recommend this game. The core concept is interesting and the spells are fun. Playing the faster-paced songs is a blast. However, the game suffers from a tiny playlist which turns some floors into drudgery and "this track again?" rather than keeping it a fun, fresh experience. On sale or in a bundle, I suppose it is worth it, though, as this game definitely has its strong points.

I believe I either got this game in a humble bundle or steam sale. Either way, I expected nothing more than a dumb, silly, lighthearted bird-dating sim. Oh jeez, this game was more than that.

Following the routes of each bird is pretty short and nothing too special. The dialogue gets silly, and it appears to be exactly what I expected, aside from two very entertaining dating paths (Oko-San's and Anghel's).

However, wooing enough of the birds unlocks the "BBL ending" which provides an entertaining story that has nothing to do with flirting, and everything to do with character development - and with content that is dark, twisted, and answers some of the questions left by playing through the dating paths. I finished this plot somewhere between two / two and a half hours, and it was worth it. Unlike the individual dating paths, which tend to gloss over the characters and sometimes leave unsatisfying endings, the BBL plot throws a ton of additional background story into each character, a bunch of twists, and is written well enough to make you want to finish playing through it. The BBL plot plays more as an interactive story than a sim, but for a few bucks I'd say it's worth it.

Overall, the 'preliminary game' is alright but nothing too special, and each path is quite short. The BBL plotline is great and makes it worth playing through to unlock.
