If someone asked me what the best fighting game was, I always said 'Tekken,' by far. But I think Tekken 8 is really bad, and here’s why—but let’s mention some pros first.

PROS:

- Good Graphics: Tekken 8 has good graphics.

- New Features: The game introduces useful new tools for learning, like the ability to take control from any point in a replay to check what your options were.

- Reina: I think she’s the coolest newcomer they’ve introduced in a decade. She has many traits I appreciate, like creative gameplay design, execution, stances, and so on. But that’s pretty much it for me when it comes to the pros.

CONS:

- Tekken 8 is too "Scrubby"

We already knew before launch that Tekken 8 would become an easier game, and that's not my issue here. I'm all for making it more accessible for new players. But I never would have thought they would erase almost everything that was skillful, with Law's DSS execution removal being the worst one for me. And I’m not even a Law main; it’s one of the cases I remember being upset the most, where I thought, "Man, they really raped his character identity."

It is possible to remove the entry barrier while keeping depth, just that in this case unfortunately, the depth got actually removed. If your main focus is to appeal to a mass audience, the game isn't anymore what the fans want. The problem isn't that they took risks, rather the opposite. I'm only going to mention a few.

- Monetization:
The biggest issue for me is the greediness of Bandai Namco. While the game was getting high review scores at the beginning, Namco made sure to introduce a Tekken Shop right after the reviewing phase, even when the game was plagued with other issues at the time like balance and the lack of penalties for plugging and cheating. The problem here wasn’t that they were looking for ways to make more money off the game—I'm actually fine with that—it was the lack of transparency and the obvious planning behind these negative review-dodging tactics.

- More Money:
It wouldn’t be that bad if it stopped there, but after introducing the Tekken Shop, they also introduced the Tekken Fight Pass—like Battle Pass subscriptions in Live Service or F2P games. The issue here is that Tekken isn’t free-to-play. They even have a Deluxe and Ultimate Edition, but those are separate contents. One item included in the Battle Pass even became a meme in the community. It’s literally the default asset for a circle, rendered in 3D, in Unreal Engine—a white ball. No textures, no colors, just the default asset from the game development tools.

Reason I Stopped Playing:

- Game Feels Like an Ad:
Tekken 8 feels like an advertisement for itself. To be more specific, after Eddy was released as the first DLC character, his face was added to the game’s Title Menu. This was a refreshing change from seeing Kazuya’s face every time I started the game. The devs said they would add an option to choose which character would be displayed, which sounded cool. However, I soon realized that this was likely a tactic to promote each new DLC release. Let’s say this is a nitpick and you move on. After you press Start, you get reminded again, this time through a flashy banner in the Game Menu to buy Lidia, in case you missed her in Title Screen. You own her already? No ♥♥♥♥♥ given, they still gonna make sure to remember you. The game has been out for six months and we still have no option to at least avoid some of the spam by choosing our favorite char for the Title Screen.

It doesn’t stop there. Every time an item in the Tekken Shop is updated or a new Fight Pass is introduced, you're bombarded with advertisements. This constant barrage of promotional content feels excessive, especially considering I purchased the Ultimate Edition of the game "worth" €109.99. Despite owning the first four DLC characters, I feel so overwhelmed by the advertising that I’ve lost interest in even trying them out. It’s a frustrating and intrusive business practice that I can’t tolerate.

I think you have to play the game for a while to really understand it. Dont expect to be enteratined just because you played it for an half hour. I think it is a really chill game to relax. You have to be patient when it comes to organizing your business. Its my favorite game i played since a long time. The level of detail on how you can tweak your grow, how you can choose your customers and how you can upgrade your growroom is my favorite part of this game. There a still some bugs here and there, but thats to be expected for a game just released. I really hope they will bring DLCs in future. Good job Vile Monarch ;)

Gameplay: 7/10
Design: 9/10
Sound: 9/10
Fun: 10/10
