Extremely steep learning curve. This game makes the learning curve on Elite Dangerous look easy.

You literally have to fine tune your ship and its various components including thrust angle/angle of incidence of each individual thruster or else your ship will be all over the place.

No real decent way to earn cash for ship upgrades and the way the races are set up its hit or miss. I would consider myself a newbie in the race world but every race I have access to to make money i'm pitted against veteran npc bots.
I went in debt because i crashed my ship and that was that. My current funds total 0.

No campaign. Nothing whatsoever. This game could use a campaign.

Graphics are poorly optimized for VR, i run the valve index and a 2080 ti overclocked with a water cooled gpu. 32 gb ram
(he good stuff) and a ryzen threadripper 1950X overclocked, and yet this game on high settings causes horrendous frame rate stuttering, especially when other racers are in my field of view.

Multiplayer is ok but you can't earn any cash for upgrades unless you wager with your friend who, if new like you, is too broke to wager anything so you just race each other and get nothing out of it but laughs as you each wipe out over and over.

This game needs better guidance for newcomers. I love elite dangerous so a high learning curve isn't necessarily going to put me off from a well done game but this game is another level and considering the game needs a bit more polish i've opted to try it again at a later date to see if it improves. For now it's a good foundation at best.

I can't recommend buying at this point in time unless it's on sale and you have a few bucks burning a hole in your pocket for Vr content.

Seems like an interesting game but valve index controller support hasn't been implemented yet so your hand position in game doesn't coincide with your hand position in reality. I have read that they are planning to fix this but until they do, I requested a refund. For 30 bucks I expect better product. Will change my review if they ever implement full valve index controller support.

Also make sure you have at least 5 feet of space to move around in. If you mainly sit at your desk playing VR games you may find certain aspects to be non conforming. As an example, i find when reaching for certain objects I hit my desk. This is not the devs fault of course but therein lies the problem with valve index. Moving my base sensors is a massive pain in the ass so just make sure you have at least a few feet of clearance and you'll be fine.

other than that it does seem like a creepy game though i don't scare easily. Will update this review in due time

Really great software , Couldn't get the windows to remain persistent in a game with an oculus rift. Definitely makes it easy to multi task in VR with my valve index though. I no longer have to pull off my headset to look up information or type on my keyboard. highly recommended

I just want to say that it's crappy for bethesda to charge full price for a VR version of a game most of us bought ages ago. I personally own a copy of the original skyrim and special edition. I recommend you obtain a steam serial key from alternative sources or get it if it goes on a steep sale.

That being said this game is great in VR. But once again you need to mod it heavily to make it playable. Visit nexusmods and install vortex mod manager. it makes modding a breeze. You can use most skyrim special edition mods for the vr version. I have modded my game heavily and have had no issues such as crashing except on rare occasion.

Make sure to give yourself some room to play in. If you play melee you'll have to actually swing those arms. It can be tiring to be honest. I prefer mages and spell casting or mixing it up with some melee elements. Casting is a little less physically demanding than melee. Ranged arrows attacks are fun in VR.

again the game is great in VR but not worth 60 bucks.

Absolutely an amazing game, especially in VR if your system can handle it. Become completely immersed in a sci-fi space sim with this space based MMO for lack of a better term.
The game also works in desktop only mode, but I think you are missing the true experience this game has to offer if you aren't playing it in VR.

Personally, I avoided buying the latest expansion pack Odyssey as if I wanted to run around on foot all day, id play one of those other star based games like no mans sky or star sh*tizen. Also, the new expansion doesn't fully support VR, so no thanks anyway.

I recommend playing through the tutorial at least twice to get a feel for ship operation and take-off/landings. most ships come with auto landing and take off systems which makes it pretty easy, but sometime down the road you're going to want to take off the training wheels.

In this game, you spend hours exploring distant stars as you jump from system to system and either stop to explore or keep on to your destination. Be wary as you will lose track of time in this game quite easily. You can land on almost any moon or planet you can see and can even get out and explore in your SRV, or, Surface Recon Vehicle (provided you have one in your ship, hint: you have to buy a vehicle hangar bay and an accompanying SRV).

You can have multiple SRVs that you and your friends can use to explore together but separately in case you're utilizing the multicrew feature, which allows you and your friends to fly in the same ship as pilot and gunner etc. Basically one person flys the ship and up to 3 other people man various turrets or weapons systems.

Personally, I think the multicrew function needs a little work.

There is PvP in this game in the form of arena battles which can be fun, or in the open world of the game. You can pretty much do as you wish, even act like a pirate, but you will become a wanted player as a result. There can be ganking by other players out to give people a hard time, but in my entire time playing this game, I have yet to encounter any issues with other players. Not to say the gankers aren't out there because they are, they are just scattered mostly.

If your ship is destroyed, whether by another player or an npc or because you flew too close to the sun, there is a rebuy cost that equals a percentage of your ships overall value. If your ship is destroyed and you have no funds to rebuy a new one, you will be placed into a new starter ship and you'll have to pick up the pieces of your failed venture, and this can be a stressful feeling, especially if you just lost a really expensive ship. Trust me, i know...

This game can be relaxing, but it can also be a nightmare. Thargoids, an alien species that lives in open space and spew corrosive acid at your ship (a nod to aliens no doubt) are invading and they like to chew up new players. be sure to ask for advice around or do your research before attempting to get involved in this ongoing interstellar conflict. One tip I will concede is that they will lose sight of you if your ship remains under a running temperature of 20%. This is known as cold engineering and i implore you to do some research online about it.
Lots of resources like https://inara.cz make it easy to look up anything in the game. It's essential in my opinion.

The game does have teaming, though cross platform play is not currently possible, so if you're on steam and you have a friend on xbox, you will NOT be able to play together in the same universe.

That being said, i recommend this game for PC, as consoles are trash anyway.

I also recommend some sort of flight stick and throttle assembly. The thrustmaster hotas is a good set at a decent price, but there are more expensive and realistic setups out there if you're willing to pony up some cash.

If you really want to increase your immersion, I recommend a 3rd party application called Voiceattack. It allows you to fully customize voice commands to control various functions of your ship, and it also works in any game really, by connecting voice commands to hotkeys, or macro sequences. Buy it once, and you own it for life with free updates. It offers a free trial as well.
https://voiceattack.com/

I also recommend a steam app if you play in VR called OVR Toolkit. It's a must have for VR in any application.

Highly recommended and feel free to drop by and say hey if you have any questions.

Update: Not sure why or when but I managed to lose all of my characters and progress from not playing for awhile. I considered starting over but after remembering how insanely grindy this game was, I've decided to avoid it and i recommend you avoid it too. It's a pointless hamster wheel of a grind with no end.

But if you insist on playing it, read on.

First off, to make any real progress in this game you must be logged in 24/7 or at least as close to that as possible. Some people like myself have a separate dedicated rig we can log on to the game with remotely using remote desktop apps or programs like "real VNC" and let it sit overnight or while afk without burning up our main gaming computers.

The reason for this 24 hour log on necessity is that many of the games background mechanics only function when you are logged in. Things like crafting or resource mining etc. Those things take tedious amounts of time but you never notice. Most people do fishing while afk, you get some decent rewards for that. the game is designed to keep players logged in as much as possible. I guess it looks good for the daily active users metrics. Pretty clever if you ask me. Most mmos want to disconnect you for going afk too long.

That being said, do yourself a favor. Don't acquire this game through steam. I wish I had known the ins and outs before I bought this game from here. It creates problems when you want to run it 24/7 and decide maybe you want to play another game. Steam will give you a hard time naturally. You can disable the in game overlay and get around this but it's still a pain because you have to enable it anyway if you want to buy anything from game store and you will want to believe me. Just save yourself the headache and get the game from the actual website (standard edition). if you ever get serious in BDO you'll realize why. Also you can not transfer your account from steam to standard or vice versa so once you lock yourself into steam or standard bdo you're in it for life.

As for everything else, it's a grindy time sink. You spend countless hours trying to get ahead by getting better gear and enhancing it. For what? is anyone's guess. Personally I am looking to achieve pvp dominance but this game is so gear dependent that any pvp you do encounter is one sided. You'll get one shot by maxed out players. The game is heavily pay to win. Meaning you can buy items from the cash shop and then melt those items down into other items that make gear enhancing less risky and easier. Granted a player would need to spend tens of thousands of dollars to achieve this, it is still possible. As it stands now some gear can be outright destroyed if enhancement fails. Accessories mainly. Armor and weapons simply lose max durability which must be restored by melting similar items or using memory fragments. Do yourself a favor and save any memory fragments you get. you'll know why when you start enhancing boss gear.

Enhancement of gear is all about RNG and chance bonus. every time you fail an enhancement your gears maximum durability drops but you gain what's called a failstack that increases the chance of success on your next attempt by x amount of %. The more failstacks you pile on the more chance of success but most people never realize that even with 10s or hundreds of failstacks , on most items you wont have a 100% guarantee. It can be a headache and costly. Boss gear is the worst. It's the best gear in game and the hardest and most costly to enhance. Like i said keep those memory fragments or you'll wish you had.

You also can not trade items or give money to other players. you can move stuff around between your various alts and sell stuff on the market place but no trading whatsoever. I guess this is an attempt to keep gold sellers away but you still see them advertising so there is a way around it apparently. Either way they charge way too much for in game currency and it's relatively easy to get. Don't bother trying to buy gold from a seller. I don't have to tell you you can get banned for it anyway.

There are no dungeons and a few guild raids that i guess could be considered end game co-op content. Running your own guild seems as tedious as it gets. Can't elaborate more on this because I haven't bothered trying to run a guild yet.

There is a weekly event out in the sea every Sunday afternoon NA time, a world boss spawns known as Vell. Everyone will usually pile into groups and take ships out to meet vell. it is a massive clusterf*ck and everyone is packed in so tightly that you can hardly see a thing. I have done this event only twice and i'll tell you why. I got left out at sea both times by my guild mates even though i asked them to wait for me. This is a bad thing to happen as there is NO FAST TRAVEL IN BDO. so if you get left out at sea and can't find a good samaritan to offer you a ride you have to swim back. It literally can take hours to do this. It is f*cking irritating! The first time I laughed it off but the 2nd time i left guild because wtf really? F*cking assh*les!

There is an item you can get from the loyalties shop to call for an npc rescue boat but its trash because it's still slow af and only takes you to an island near shore. You still have to swim the rest of the way.

As a result of that crap I made a decision to never attend vell again until I have my own ship and I also plan to assist people who happen to get left behind because nobody should have to deal with that level of asshattery, especially from guildmates. I'm looking at you akkadian dynasty.

As it stands ships take a month or two to craft and a lot of resources so make this a priority for yourself from the get go if you plan to do sea stuff or you run the risk of getting left behind after vell. I've been running the crafting process 24/7 for a few weeks full speed and am barely scratching 25% to completion.. So yea it takes forever.

There are other world bosses on land that spawn every few hours on a set schedule. visit bdobosstimer.com to know when bosses are spawning. Kzarka is the easiest. they hit harder as you progress so you'll want to have decent gear and know the strats. Look on google for those. They drop coveted boss gear as well as other assorted goodies.

All in all the game is fun and the combat is great. The community is like any other mmo, helpful players and toxic individuals galore.

Just remember. Get the game from the game website not steam. you'll thank me later.

Check me out on twitch at twitch.tv/spreadicus and drop a follow for free in game goodies.

Wanted to give the game a chance but it runs like crap on a computer that i use to personally control satellites in space and nuke aliens from orbit. Uninstalling. Glad I only paid a few bucks for it but too bad I can't get a refund.

This series was fantastic but it does kind of bother you at the end. Knowing what happens to the characters if you already played the first game. You feel bad for these virtual characters. Thanks largely to the excellent character development throughout the game. Highly recommended. If you haven't played the original game yet you should play this one first. I plan to play through the original again very soon.

NO 3D SUPPORT/FUNCTIONALITY - INSANE DRM

Wanted to try this game out and left sorely disappointed. I have a pretty strong pc powered by a water cooled overclocked 1080 as well as a Ryzen Threadripper 1950X packing 32 cores overclocked to 4.0 ghz , and 32 gb of ddr4 2800 oc ram. and this game still took a long time to load. I suspect that's due to their heavy handed DRM. Strike 1

I am a 3D gamer, ever since i adopted Nvidias 3D vision I only enjoy playing games in 3D anymore. It just makes everything look so surreal. They have absolutely zero support for 3D vision in ths game. It works fine in the menus but once the actual gameplay begins, whoa is all i can say. It absolutely will not function correctly at this point in time. In fact enabling 3D vision in game will crush your fps into the ground and make everything look horrid and nightmarish. I have never experienced this with any other game. Most games will function with 3D enabled but may not render properly but they still dont crush my fps. This one wont even run.

It's a shame too. I enjoyed the AC franchise, at least up until the main saga ended with the world ending stuff pre 2012, but lately it seems like these AC games are just not that good. Coupled with the fact that they don't care about the niche population that enjoys 3D gaming, i got a refund and they lost a sale.

I'm sure the game is fine for non 3d gamers aside from the DRM issues, but if you're a 3D enthusiast like myself then don't bother with this one.
