Early Access Review
Everything here is perfect. The large interconnecting gorgeous levels, a well balanced arsenal, an intriguing story to push you to finish a map for more than the sake of beating it.

I'm astonished reading reviews from people that cannot handle the level design. The lack of patience and attention is the fault of only the player. Everything is signposted and easily navigable with the map. People forget it is OK to get lost a few times in a game; this isn't a modern shooter where it's one big intestine defecating you out at the end.

Some complain about the amount of text, invoking "show not tell" like this is an actual movie. The fact is most "showing" in games are simple bones with imagination laid on, just like how Supplice appears. But the terninals add real MEAT to the story with a cast of characters that are well written and add further context to the game's setting.

You just want to explore for so many reasons: permanent stat upgrades, supplies, and terminals all contribute to the feeling of wanderlust. A particular secret provided all three, along with an amazing perspective of the current level's architecture. Something about the colors, spacing and formation of the structures is just jaw dropping. It's so aesthetically pleasing, I had more jaw dropping moments and brain tinglies than any ray traced, VRAM destroying game of 2023.

I played on Supplice difficulty and only died a few times until the last fight, which felt like a real wall until I managed my resources better, used my power ups more, chose my weapons more carefully, took out the biggest threats first, and used the arena's layout to my advantage. Absolute peak gameplay.

The only problem? I need more. I'd pay AAA price for the whole thing right now. It's utterly embarrassing seeing comparisons to other Doom TCs like Ashes, and wanting it to be free like it is. Good on their team for making their game free, but I would've paid 20$ for that experience as well. Quality products deserve patronage. I couldn't imagine being a life long Doom player and not wanting to support devs who pen this love letter to the genre.
