I don't know much about lore or anything, but gameplay is fun. Difficulty levels are good for both new and veteran players and the 40k community is very helpful and welcoming.

TLDR: game good, Sony bad (still)
To be fair, the game is a lot of fun to play, but with all the stuff going on with Sony, I can’t bring myself to leave a positive review
Game good
This is by far the most fun I’ve had with any game in a while. The gameplay is fun and easy to wrap your head around, there are a lot of different difficulty levels so anyone can enjoy, the community is awesome (except the very occasional bad apple), it feels like you’re in an action movie and you’re the protagonist and escaping a mission within an inch of your life due to the help of your squad is something that can’t be explained, it should be experienced. There are a lot of different options for building your loadout. Of course, there are some weapons that are considered meta and they probably are the better option if you want to go full hardcore, but for the most part you can just pick whatever seems fun and it will most likely work. Overall, this game is a lot of fun, especially with some friends, but don’t be scared if you’re solo because almost every random you end up teaming with is awesome.
Of course the game has some negative points as well, but Arrowhead is working tirelessly to resolve them and they seem to really be listening to the community as to what they could/should change.
5 stars, outstanding patriotism.

And now for the elephant in the room

Sony bad
A lot of stuff happened, but here’s the short version. Keep in mind that this is missing some details and nuances.
When the game launched, servers were overloaded and because of that the developers of the game (Arrowhead) opted to, among other things, temporarily disable PSN account linking to reduce server load. While this was happening, the game was buyable and playable virtually everywhere around the world, including countries where you are unable to have a PSN account (some legal reasons prohibit having an account there). A couple of months down the line, it is announced that the PSN account linking would become mandatory to play the game. This started an outrage in the community, because that would mean that the countries without the ability to have a PSN account wouldn't be able to play the game anymore. A game they had been enjoying for a couple of months, they have paid for and were sold while the publisher knew they would be requiring the PSN accounts and these people couldn’t legally get them. The community came together to review bomb the game, and apparently that helped Arrowhead in conversations with Sony where they talked about the PSN requirement. Eventually news came out that the PSN account linking wouldn't be mandatory, and we thought we won. People started changing their reviews back to positive and that was it.
However (and this is the new part and why my review is negative)
After Sony declared they wouldn't be mandating a PSN account to play this game, they just outright restricted the sale of the game in the 180 or so countries where you can't have a PSN account. Mind you, these countries were able to buy and play Helldivers 2 like any other beforehand. I don’t know if the people that already bought the game over there can still play it. Sony blindsided us and screwed over the people in those countries who were going to buy the game, all because they can’t make a PSN account to show to the shareholders.
Also, as of yesterday the sale has been restricted in 3 more countries, showing us this is not over

We may have won a battle but we’re still fighting a war. This isn’t over and we have to keep pushing.
We dive together or not at all
