Great story, game runs terribly.

If stutters bother you, you might want to avoid. I found frame gen helped, makes it swing from 30fps to 400fps but that's better than 15fps when you look at certain things.

Game play was very good. Controls are difficult. The game is meant for a controller, and you will feel very odd with a keyboard and mouse as I played.

If you hate controllers, here is some quirks you will have.
Sometimes it clearly shows thumb sticks being wiggled, but you just press a single WASD key and ignore the wiggling. Sometimes you get both sticks, but the same WASD key for both. The game treats your mouse as a thumb stick, so every time you have to move your mouse over something, you will rapidly drag, pick up your mouse, move to the other side of the pad, and repeat, 6+ times to move an inch on your screen. Other times it switches to phaser TPS mode, and now your mouse is 1:1 and you are effortlessly clicking heads. The game even gets confused and won't spawn more enemies for you, but the invisible timer keeps counting while you hang out with nothing shooting at you (but shots still appearing) because you clicked all the heads so quickly.

So overall, totally worth it on sale. Has a ton of jank. Let's hope for an episode 2. There is good foundation here.

My friend and I both played this over new years. Almost missed midnight. We couldn't stop laughing. It was such good fun.

Fun game, hope it gets more frequent updates. Mods aren't necessary, but some like unblocking upgrade trees can be fun for a second playthrough while we wait for things to get balanced better.

Pretty great game. Worth the money. The tactical elements are impressive in how much detail it gives you before you make your move.

I would recommend this game,

Was there a lot of running back and forth? Yes. But all the missions were interesting, so I didn't mind.

I am not usuually one to post a review years after the game was relevant but I tried to play it, and now it requires epic games. It even installs it without permission like a virus. There was no EULA for this and I do not agree with it. I want a full refund of the game and all DLC as the publisher broke the contract, not me. They took the game from me. They changed the deal.

Excellent game. If you like turn based strategy, it does it pretty well.

Graphics: Pixels, but good pixels. It's an rpg maker game. You might laugh a little with how much the female MC changes between fighting and not.
Sound: The SFX often sounds taken from a public library, but it works. The music is quite good.
Gameplay: The game is an auto battler, but you control the squad load out to manipulate the rock paper scissors lizard Spock that is happening.
Story: Meh... I found myself constantly repeating the old line "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal" because it's so obvious. And there is like romance and buddy stuff, that seems to have little effect, but hey, warmance maybe?

Totally recommend it if you like strategy games.

Such an amazing game is my summary.

Graphics: 9/10. Some things feel a little cheap, but overall, whoa is all I can say. The sense of scale is staggering. When you start in your small fighter, things seem huge. Then your middle class, things seem "normalized" then in your capital ships, things almost seem small. Collision surfaces are the model surfaces. This comes with a performance cost and a glitchyness, but it also means you can fly your S class ship literally anywhere. Inside a station if you want. Between the wings of a capital ship where you can shoot at it from inside. It's truly insane.

Gameplay: 10/10. Build, trade, fly, fight, it got pretty much everything right. But....
Controls and UI: 4/10. You are going to spend a lot of time in the map screen, and a lot of it makes very little sense. For example, the best way to hire a station manager... Go to your property list, select a ship, right click, choose info. Click the crew tab. Right click a crew member, say work somewhere else. The map reloads on the property screen. Now, find the station or ship, right click it, and a little menu pops up (keep in mind it never tells you any of this, even barely so in the tutorial and choose assign, pick the position, and OK. This entire process is pretty much backwards from what it should be. Trade filters are again confusing and not well explained. Setting up trade stations is never explained properly, the logistics screen is never explained properly. It's super confusing and can take 100+ hours just to see everything. So the UI is really terrible. And yet not worse than previous X games.

Sound: 8/10. The music is fantastic, the explosions and guns are serviceable.

Performance: 1/10. The game runs like garbage. In a completely empty universe, you might get 60 fps. Once the game is going though, enjoy 5fps as you are looking at your HQ or shipyard, and when you jump out of sector to try and get some FPS just so you can dog fight, you will be doing it at 15fps with your CPU idling and your GPU idling. The game has a logic bottleneck somewhere in it. Sometimes it's from auto traders and auto miners trying to find something to do. Other times it just seems inexplicable. But if your performance is way down, go through your property list and look for ships that have failed orders. These bog down your performance.
If your into spreadsheets in space, the terrible performance probably won't bother you. If your looking for intense dog fighting, the performance will probably piss you off. If you need 60fps, I don't think there is a CPU in existence that can handle it.

And a couple notes for people coming from previous X games.

You have to craft SETA, you are not given it like X3.
You do not need SETA to travel anymore, you get a travel drive that usually multiplies your speed by 10 or more. One ship with a travel drive can move at 9000 (heh) which is nearly as fast as the super highways.
Jump drives are gone, but you get a universe teleport instead.
Collisions no longer blow you up. They just drain shields. This helps with Auto pilot crashing into things without killing you or your AI ships. So they didn't fix the bad navigation AI, they just made it suffer less. Betty will even say "Autopilot epically failed" on a big crash.
