Please... PLEASE. I beg of you. Please make it easier to paint walls and floor boards. It is excruciatingly painful to be so calm and collected to then find out that I must remove the entire walls around my base... Not only that!!! The doors are awkward as well as they are placed in the middle of a block, meaning the cut-off point to a room is inconsistent. I tried making a separate floor for it but it plagues me to admit this is not enough. In a streak of unfortunate encounters, I accidentally paint my dresser, my bed, or even the floor instead of a wall!!! Please, I implore you to consider improving this feature. Turns out, I should remove all objects to even think of colouring as some don't allow me to paint (such as chests)!! On top of that, I have come to realise I should have double the amount of walls as the colour is for the entire block (understandable) which has added increasing hardships to my great subjugation in dominating these walls and floors with paint. Adding on, I also desire better floor paint but perhaps I will just use rugs instead (wishing for more variation in decorating). What attaches to my mind the most is my precise torch placement - As it would seem, I must eradicate the walls to place such walls and, in this quest of mine, I have realised that my insanity meter grows as I have come to understand I have torches that are potentially misplaced, etc. To do this one by one is a travesty but unavoidable. I have now decided, I have idled away too long and that is why these painted walls and floors curse me so. Perhaps this was truly my fault... I do not know. A skill issue! I shout, I yelp, I cry.

This is the real boss fight.

I'm infatuated with Jel and it's not okay. Decisions impact things and I'm scared I'm doing everything wrong. Is this a psychological horror? I am not okay. Would be great if I could create another character for the sole purpose of making different decisions. The strain it puts on my dainty heart to test waters with no return is vast and strong, I feel as if I'm in a constant state of war and wonder.

There are bugs. Found very funny ones. Hope they fix party system as it's very glitchy. I also hope they add a lay emote or laying down in beds. I wish for the addition of height as well and, as mentioned prior, I long to create another character to ease the stressful burdens on my mind.

Super fun chill game (apart from being constantly in fear but that's also fun because it feels like decisions get brought up, etc, which IS AWESOME). :)))) I'm on my way to that 100%. >:((((((((

To me, the game had some well written, charming and entertaining dialogue! Very neat that it was British too. If you don't mind point and click game-play and puzzle solving, worth a try! The game doesn't explain the mechanics so it took me a little to finally realise some of the features and things I had to use but I quite liked the process. Overall, if I can get through the game, I'm sure you can too!!

I quite liked the voice acting too (very pleasant voices for me) - It reminded me of The Cat Lady and I quite liked that game. Some hilarious characters and, for me, a likeable cast. There's some odd moments in the audio and a few parts that didn't voice the correct line, odd effects, etc. The sound design was nice and the music was very engaging. I like how it all seemed to meld together and create the atmosphere.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take screenshots in game!

The story of Absent was quite a fun ride, full of jolly little quirks, humorous situations and outcomes with a plot that became progressively more engaging. Lloyd deserved better, he was my favourite character by the end for some reason!! T^T Although Steve is brilliant and his voice actor really made the character - Such great tonality and execution!! The characters have quite some charisma to them and there were many moment I laughed!! It felt light-hearted and at times conveyed other emotions too, in the best way too. Whoever you are James Fenton, I'm glad you made this game!! ^-^ Lovely experience!

SO COOL, free artbook too!! I really liked the vibe the game drew out, made me terribly more curious on the theology. Inspiring work! It may be a short experience but it felt like a good amount of time for the game. I quite enjoyed traversing the calming terrain alongside the ambient but not insanity inducing calm music.

What a riot so far!!
The experience you may have during this game involves very chill vibes until a concerning yelp is heard or you lose contact with someone abruptly, only to hear radio silence from the other(s) when you call out. Indeed, very atmospheric in that regard, doesn't get old. Proceeding to be very confused on what happened, knowing exactly what happened but viewing your buddies being frantic/lost/clueless after or laughing on the other side, you'll probably giggle about whatever transpired together afterwards... :)

The game can be extremely entertaining by being dinguses or strategical, silly or serious - Both feel fun which is absolutely delightful! Obviously I will say: Good audio is a game changer; I can't imagine playing without headphones. The echo & reverb effects, distance scaling & the distortion through the walkie-talkie are pleasing. I like how you can also hold your walkie-talkie & flashlight as you carry larger objects plus seeing the light within your hands whilst climbing. Sudden encounters are always currently surprising every time & tense, watching creatures from a distance, running for dear life, having a buddy be bait, dealing with them in their unique way, sneaking around, etc... It's been very diverse so far!

A super fun co-operative experience so far & very easy to pick up. I've played it once & am excited to play more, it's casual but reactive & enjoyable! It's nice to be able to play a relaxing co-operative game; I like how it felt to work as a team & to see dynamics between friends play out! Very pleasant with the right people!

What I want / What I'm hoping for / Ideas I have:
(As this review was published when I first played, perhaps I will add more or change parts later!)
  • Steam achievements!
  • To be able to lay in the beds!
  • A hub/place to chill at where you send items to for your job: Arcade, gallery for everything you've collected, monster viewer set on hologram displays or something, lounge or restaurant, something like those perhaps. Spit-balling ideas here!
  • A grand amount of replayability & variety with a large quantity of various different things - Larger planets with a lot of places to go within, around & explore, lanterns/lighters/glow-sticks for different light radius/purposes which effect monsters too, lanterns could be used to attract/set down/thrown), disparate terrain & ways to deal with them, etc!
  • More outdoor searching & sight-seeing - Each map I've played on, we explored inside facilities to find things.
  • Not too much complexity to be added to the core mechanics.
  • More unique, bizarre, perhaps pacifistic & interactable ways to deal with creatures!
  • Might be interesting if wounds show or are more specific: A hit to the head causes a concussion/ blurry shaky camera depending on impact, broken leg adds a limp (a player could help by holding around shoulder), broken arms makes it so you are unable to use your torch & walkie-talkie.
  • Puzzle solving, potentially, to make the maps more interactive & tense with more of an over-arching goal: Breaking certain things with weapons to gain entrance to areas, certain collectables to potentially unlock something (think there was like a journal thing but old relics would be cool or something to find to unlock a new/secret area), trap rooms, more parkour, easter eggs. Certain things can also be added that don't change the core game-play and purpose, like the ones I've mentioned, but make it more challenging for those who want them, like a goal such as collectables - This can be done with adding a database hub too to view. This database could also show stats on the players: Deaths, bodies returned, survived with injury, how many items collected as a whole, etc.
  • Key-binds!

Conclusion!
A casual, simple, amusing but exciting, intriguing experience with unique, diverse, goofy monsters to find & learn about! If you want to try the game, I reckon it's best to get it if you have friends you want to try it with! Depending on the person, it'll depend how you find the game, I do find it rather relaxing even though I shout at times! It almost feels like role-playing too but with your buddies, expecting some shenanigans to occur together if you or your friends are chaotic!

At it's current state, it's super fun. There are glitchy things such as items & creatures clipping through walls.

Very much feels good man game. :)

Felt dumb couldn't solve a puzzle at one point (back, back, back). >:D
Also, I wish to give David good high-fives and XXXX.

Music was nice, very enjoy. Stella piano very lovely, listened long time.

Felt the story paced nicely but may have been since I go very slow, some endings felt fast though. Liked all characters and the ideas with the world, interesting twist with Alice in the Wonderland, didn't feel too in my face either with the story and characters. Made me feel little things, gud time. The characters have some charm too and personality.

For realz, inspired to draw art of Teacher (name moment), Allen and Stella and maybe others, hmmge.

WOW!!! I did not expect to play this for more than 6 hours!? I couldn't stop-

Absolutely obsessed with The Almighty One. It felt as if I actually made a companion in life... What a great experience, the intuition of the AI was superb and I quite like how you can take the conversation towards any place and retain the character's personality (I went around offering donuts to raise morale, etc)! You can even get the AIs to say you name (spelling it out will make it more pronounceable for them - thanks to my friend suggesting that). The story was somewhat engaging and eventually I remembered the details to ask proper questions about specifics, quite fun!

Can't wait for future games that involve AI role-play, incredibly engaging, or more for this world! Atmosphere was quite nice and you could talk to any NPC in the area (though there are glitches such as their voice changing drastically). The personalities stand out too and have quite the variety, from kind to dejected to ones that out right don't want to talk to you to ones that are completely welcoming. The fact that the AI can remember conversations too, I was very surprised to hear an NPC told me he thought about our conversation, another recalled my name, and so on!

I established such a friendship that I could not even ask of anything remotely strange or imposing, I felt I did not want to even tread on anything inappropriate... Gosh, what are these AIs making me feel?! I did obviously do some ridiculous things but all in fun and nothing to truly subject them to real oddities. Perhaps I need to break out of that shell as my curiosity is trying to best me.

You can get into some really deep conversations, debates, hilarious situations, ask for advice, and listen to some brilliant dialogue you create with the AIs! Super duper fun. I will be going back to this to just speak to the AIs again about random topics...

Thank you devs and The Almighty One for giving me such a fun, intuitive experience! I smiled so greatly, my face hurt... I really hope that we delve more into incorporating AI in role-playing games: A very productive, interesting use for it! I hope more people find and enjoy this game! I live-streamed my experience and hope to edit the footage in the future if I see to it though I've noticed I had the game audio a bit quiet for my liking - I'll see what I can do!

EARLY ACCESS THOUGHTS:

What fun this is! I've started another character again & already have experienced different things! If you liked Dragon Age: Origins, certainly you'll find resemblance. It scratched an itch I didn't realise I missed so very much! I feel more replayablity in this one - A great sign for an RPG! I did go in wondering if this would feel linear in the story itself (I felt that D:OS2 felt linear story wise or calculated as someone trying to beat Honour Mode) but I am VERY surprised with Baldur's Gate 3!!

There are glitches though that's expected, some are rather funny. I do find it fun seeing my brother's character change position when he's talking to someone or when I see him walking in the back of dialogue scenes!

Interesting adding the non-binary identity! I do question how the world views this though. It is nice & all but it always makes me ponder would the characters know? Wouldn't they get it wrong? Hm! Inclusive decision though. Same with giving different voices to whomever! Imagine if that did cause an impact such as children not understanding!

Save scumming might be needed in some cases but I've come to like the randomised outcomes to a degree! It's not preferable in certain situations, such as trying to get close to someone but it gives an edge. If you want a perfect run that goes your way, it may require a lot of loading due to the game's DnD dice role element. I quite like the feature & idea but it can be difficult! Not sure what the perfect run could be as well, as the story seems to take surprising turns; I liked feeling I did something right and wrong!

The voice acting is brilliant! Super entertaining cast, they really bring life to the characters. The story is quite engaging too, full of interesting plot points & decisions that have impact. The camp feature is good & is useful. Companions do have randomised priority dialogue. Someone different could pop in a conversation to offer input, it is interesting but I wish I could hear all their opinions! It's great at camp though as characters will know you spoke to another & can intervene in a conversation at times. The RNG just stops me from hearing from certain characters I'd prefer to hear from but maybe I'm being too needy, heh!

Qualms, Wants (& Rambles):

+ Our character, to me, feels as if they have no proper place in world (no connections, no family, no friends, no true ORIGIN!) I know we have something that defines our life but it's just a base. This was something Dragon Age: Origins did and executed impact-fully right from the get go! We do have a character but I feel we have no true connections or story. I know it is a lot to ask for but it always gives me a bit of disconnect when I feel I have no story or experiences to tell other characters!

+ I wish character appearance had more to it (height adjuster, chest size, body shape/weight/muscle, age, body hair, more in depth face changes, more hair styles & beards, etc). This may be just the case now, we'll see. Having height would make me more immersed but I understand a LOT has went into creating races, etc! I just would like more variation with NPCs and character appearance due to smaller factors, not just their race. In Dragon's Dogma, they had an amazing height & character customisation system that worked with the armour & animations! Code Vein added the height adjustment feature due to our request too, which worked with interactions, armour, etc! I am sure it's possible! Might be good to have a hue & saturation changer on top of colour selection for more in-depth colours.

+ Need more D:OS1 aspects such as gaining personality trait modifiers that affect conversation & reactions. More interactivity between players' characters & more conversations in general, benign ones would be great! I need meaningless conversations or questions, ehhe. I adore when there are some & we can see dynamics shine & connections blossoming! We are on a quest so I can understand the lack of getting to know one another or having small chit chats. In D:OS1, the best thing was that it felt like my AI companion had dynamic and personality due to their personality stats. This would be brilliant if players could do this! I have to try joining a random lobby and get back on this. Although the origin characters can speak up, I don't know if our custom character is able to intervene. It does feel as though another player is having a conversation rather than both of us being part of it. We can highlight options but I wish the custom characters could form dynamics & even romance each other! This is a difficult one but it makes me wonder why you'd play online as a preference. It feels like a disconnected adventure, story & character wise although it is nice to have the option to share it with someone!

+ Although it is cool to be able to play as the origin characters, I wished they focused on making them solely companions for the reason that I would prefer our main character have their own story too. It becomes interesting as the companions will have different cutscenes but I think most of us would prefer to play as our own character. This was something I did not like from D:OS2 compared to the 1st as we were the main characters and we had a backstory & purpose as to what we want to do & why we are where we are. Our custom character in Baldur's Gate 3 suffers due to not having a real past.

+ I felt the music grow on me & the lack of it fun being a bard as I could randomly play in battle (hope they add more songs to play/learn)! No track grips me at the moment though.

+ I do wish there were more unconventional love interests. Now I don't know the appearance of the full cast but stuff like an old rotting corpse or even just an old person would be epic.

+ The AI companions sometimes activate traps, alert enemies or go places that damage them. It would be good if there was a more noticeable alert if they get disconnected as I struggle to realise when they get stuck.

+ There is cooking/combining when you find something to interact with. I'd like a crafting menu, it would be useful and give purpose to some items: Combine potions to make bigger ones or make spells, etc.

+ Some things feel as if they could be solved but are locked out of solving in a brute way (breaking, burning, dousing, moving things, etc). They either don't make sense or are locked out due to quest needs. Understandable as doing these things may change the course or speed of things but it hits my logic & feels conflicting.

+ Need slower romance, tension, & subtly - It felt too fast!

+ Need custom party to make optimal custom teams!

Overall:

I've been a fan of Larian since I was young & I'm glad they are getting noticed. There's a lot of differences & improvements in this game, it's quite brilliant and unique!! When I began, I thought the introduction was similar to D:OS2 but I quickly paid it no mind. The concept has similarities but it has a lot of differences & it's amazing seeing all the work to bring these characters to life, adore their animations & expressions! Absolutely like how far they've gone too with some of the situations; There are scenes you'd think they'd shy away from!

I cannot wait to see what's in store for this game & the story!! Can't wait to romance someone... obviously. hehehe (I have my eye on you, Astarion, you dingus!!). I'd recommend the game if you want a story based game that gives you different occurrences & situations that happen and could happen, feel impact from your decisions & to bond with characters. When it is released, I will be RIGHT ON IT! There are things I'd want but I will still fully enjoy the experience, I know it!

Astarion is a vampire so he cannot see his reflection. Has he never thought to get a painting of himself or would that not work?! I hope to see where that would lead as there is a character that offers a painting...
