Don't buy this game on Steam!

Get it directly through Square Enix (which regularly has it on sale unlike Steam) or another site that does not lock in future purchases to only one vendor (Steam). The game is registered as a Steam version on the Square Enix site, and only Steam-based expansions can be registered onto that account if you buy the base game here.

The game is great, but I don't recommend buying here for the sole basis of being locked in to a single system where you cannot buy expansions elsewhere if they are on sale.

Please buy elsewhere!

Addendum:
Another reason to not buy on Steam: if you need to change countries, Square will not accept payment from a Steam store from a different country. You'll essentially be locked out of being able to pay for a subscription.
