the narrative is solid up until the final chapter where it just falls completely flat.

dialogue is pretty cheesy and some of the voice acting is subpar

gameplay is good enough if you're looking for another stealth action game

some bugs and control jank that for the most part shouldn't hinder your gameplay experience

some of the levels are REALLY well designed and have amazing atmosphere

other levels, namely the last two, are not.

its alright, buy it on sale.

Early Access Review
I recommend an educated buyer purchase this.
Caveats you need to understand with talespire.
First, if you're the DM, you need to understand that all of your players need to have the game in order to join. Thats a $25 investment per player (currently), and some players simply won't want to, or wont be able to afford it. A way around this is streaming your instance of Talespire on discord. Not a great option if your internet isn't the best, and this also could put more work on you, because now if you have any enemies that are intended to stay hidden until later in the battle (like a goblin calls for reinforcements from the room over), you might end up revealing more than you intend to when you bring them into the next room. This also gets more complicated if you wanted to use the share screen feature for music syncing.
Second, building environments is hard. Like not mechanically, but it can be creatively exhausting and time consuming. Even if you're used to dwarven forge at table games, that can still be slightly thrown together.
Third, the selection of monster mini's is, at least when I was using this, not very large. I don't know if its a development issue, copyright issue, i have no idea honestly. My suggestion is, use the minis that are closest to the monster you wish to put down (atleast in the same size category) and tell your players that the mini is not representative of the monster. There are asset mods, but I found it to be a hassle to set up and I can't recall how well that interacts with the multiplayer function as when I DM'd, I streamed the game.
If you're willing to work with these quirks(?), then I'm sure you'll have a blast on this. If not, personally I'd just recommend DnDBeyonds' new VTT (its 2D, so no fancy minis or set pieces, but a little easier to use, free, and you can inject png files for maps)

this game absolutely sucks if you're a new player
if you want to start playing, start playing at the beginning of a DLC cycle so you're not bombarded with seasonal quests and cutscenes every time you launch
this game will ruin your life

a lot of players making comparisons to tarkov, and thats fine.
in my opinion this game is what apex is to pubg
not for the art style or guns or whatever
but for being a more beginner friendly, low skill floor high skill ceiling looter shooter.
theres not 2 million binds to memorize
theres no breaking limbs
you don't have to organize the space in your bag, just the weight
this is "baby tarkov" and thats fine by me
the game has some bugs, and weapon balancing is a little bit of an issue. everyone is using the same lower tier assault rifle right now because it is good at all ranges and easy to obtain through leveling up the right vendor (osiris)
some people are claiming that if you have low tier guns (white) and fight someone who just so happens to have a blue shield and helmet then you don't stand a chance. that is, if you're fighting people head on and trying to take firefights. in my experience if you can still manage to out manuever someone or play to your weapons strengths, then you can still win the gun fight
theres loads of quests for you to do, generally speaking they're just different kinds of fetch quests, but they allow you to level up quicker and aren't unreasonably difficult
the premium currency is obtainable for free (although the process is very slow)
you're not locked out of the game for 20 minutes if you die
theres no really long load times into maps
its less than 50GB which im sure will change with time but for now im glad its small
i haven't found my self intensely stressed out playing the game or upset when i lost my kit, mainly because to buy a new kit and get the ball rolling again is fairly easy. the game is punishing, but it doesn't hurt so bad that you wanna quit the game, atleast not yet.
because its F2P i recommend you atleast give it a try if you are interested, if you enjoy then spend responsibly and to your own comfort.
