Beautiful game even after 6 years and stays above 144fps at all times. Very crisp, responsive gameplay.
Gameplay feels like a Battlefield game should: you absolutely must work as a team to succeed consistently.
The experience is a bit more cinematic than I prefer. Personally, I muted the musical arrangements for full immersion. The cinematic experience might be a positive for some people, however.
The progression system has completely changed. I think there's pros and cons to the new system and honestly I'll call it a sidestep and move on.

Overall, this is a very entertaining FPS experience, especially with a squad of friends playing with you. I strongly recommend grabbing this on one of the incredibly cheap sales floating around if you haven't already.

It has some strange gameplay and animation quirks that can be annoying, and the servers could definitely be better. Gameplay is really satisfying and there's a lot of depth to team fights that can be interesting. Pretty fun game to play if you have 2-4 buddies willing to pitch in and grind with you.

Classic RTS. Story is pretty generic though. Make sure to use unit caps in 3v3 or 4v4 or else your matches will have very bad slowdown late game. If you like strategy and this game flew under your radar, try giving it a chance. It still holds up pretty well.

I stated in my original review that this game needed a year or two for me to even be critiquing a finished product. I stand by that statement now, about a year and a half later.
Vince Zampella was brought on to un-screw this game's launch and I have to say, I'm impressed. 2042 is in the state it should've launched in. The main issues I had on launch were class & specialist balance, vehicle balance & handling, weapon handling & customization, and UI smoothness and functionality. All of these issues have been addressed and dare I say they're actually in a very acceptable state right now. My biggest gripe about this game is the maps, mainly that spawns for certain game modes still allow for easy spawn camping or that certain maps clearly haven't been tested for certain game modes.

The general consensus from friends and fellow players is that this game has already come a very long way. While certainly not perfect, Battlefield 2042 in it's current state is a very entertaining FPS experience and also a visual spectacle. For fans of the series, or anyone looking for a large-scale, team-based FPS with tons of customization, this game is finally ready.

This game is incredibly entertaining. There really isn't much to say that hasn't been said to death already. This game lived up to the hype, that's all there is to it.
The combat is engaging with a high skill ceiling, and encourages multiple play styles.
The open world is expertly crafted. It learns from the successes and failures of other modern open-world titles. It's huge, dangerous and teeming with life.
My major con for this game is the camera system. The camera WILL screw you at some point especially if you are new to the series like I am. Be wary and don't use auto-target.

I haven't beaten this game yet, but as of 40 hours in I already feel like this is a really special experience. Believe the hype, it's damn good.

I loved almost everything about this game. First off, unskippable cutscenes in New Game+ is always a strike against any game. It's unacceptable considering how easy it would be to implement.
I also have problems with the balancing of the bosses in this game, specifically that in comparison to optional bosses, the story bosses often feel weak, especially in NG+. Better level scaling or just some balance tweaking on bosses like Baldur and Magni/Modii would make them a lot more engaging.
The combat is really fun but admittedly it's completely different from the originals of the series. Personally, after playing all but one of the original 7 games, I'm completely fine with a bottom-up rework of the combat. Everything you can do in this game feels satisfying and the writing is actually solid. Voice acting is stellar and is deserving of the awards it's gotten / been nominated for.
I think the developers decided the game either had to reinvent itself or die. I think it's safe to say they successfully reinvented one of my favorite franchises, somehow, into one of my favorite games I've played.

I have mixed feelings about this remaster. The game's compelling characters, extended continuity, masterful world building and gut-wrenching arcs make for a space opera that rivals the likes of Star Wars. There's hours upon hours of video essay material that do a much better job than I at elaborating on why this trilogy is one of the best examples in gaming history of world building and character writing. The modding scene for this game is more than alive and well: incredibly detailed overhaul mods, among others, continue to breathe new life into these games already brimming with expert world building.

Now that the mountain of praise is out of the way, the harsh reality is that this is an EA game. You need EA's shady DRM to even run it, the same DRM that is essentially the exact same program as Origin was except this time, you have to sign new terms in which you agree to allow EA and its affiliates to sell all of your data including but not limited to your address and even your payment information. You can't turn this feature off as now none of your games that run through EA app will run without an active internet connection. The first two games in this trilogy do not even have an online component. You will pay for this product and then only have access to it when EA says so. Unless that sounds like a fair deal to you, I'd go ahead and just download it elsewhere (legally) (haha... unless)

There's also the matter of the obvious plot holes written into the final game of the trilogy. I understand that the main voice of the series' writing left the company some time during the development of ME2, and the more you examine major plot points after ME2, the worse things get for this story. The entirety of Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2's Arrival DLC are completely pointless once you start ME3, and it's glaring. The Reapers show that this entire time they had the ability to use conventional travel to reach the heart of Citadel space within just 2 years, and that a surprise attack was never necessary for them to gain a strong upper hand in the war immediately. There was never any point to Sovereign, the conduit, or blowing the relay in ME2. They were always able to show up whenever they wanted, apparently. This breaks canon and also makes Shepard's sacrifice of over 300k people completely in vain. The Catalyst at the end of ME3 is also just a giant black hole in the plot. It argues in circles and really has no sound reasoning for why the games played out the way that they did. I could go on for another hour about these 2 glaring plot holes but it's far easier to just tell you not to think about them and enjoy what is otherwise an absolute gem of a sci-fi story.

The truth is that ignorance is bliss, and this game provides an excellent illusion. The world building and characters will pull you in and fully immerse you in a truly grand sci-fi experience.

An incredible RPG experience that shows its age, and lacks variety, but still holds up very well to the modern standard. Minimal railroading and maximum respect to the player. This game has a lot to say and refuses to spell it out for you. Consequences aplenty for the many difficult choices you will make as the main character...
...Or you can choose to not make any of those choices at all, and simply have a blast role playing whatever you please in this dated masterpiece. If you can put up with the dated engine, and you are someone who places player agency at the top of your "must have" list, this game is for you.

While I hate to repeat common tropes by saying this is the "Dark Souls" of Star Wars games, that's pretty much what this feels like. A difficult, skill-based hack-and-slash combat style game that impresses on most fronts.
Combat feels excellent, similar to Dark Souls and Sekiro, it is mostly timing based, however it's far more forgiving than the aforementioned games. You are expected to observe enemy tendencies and react accordingly with your dodges, blocks, parries, attacks and counterattacks. Even minor enemies can be overwhelming in small groups if you aren't paying attention to your movement and timings. The skill tree is simple but works well and feels like it scales properly with the pace of the game.
The game world is marvelously built, gorgeous environments that you revisit multiple times and can explore for new gameplay experiences each time you come back. You are given pretty free reign over where you want to go within the confines of your place in the story. Collectibles and customization pieces are littered throughout each level and are always fitting rewards for exploring the beautiful environments.
The game breaks up the challenging combat with puzzles and platforming sections, which often live up to the difficulty of the main combat sections. While a few of these sections can be frustrating, the satisfaction of completing these is worth the price of that frustration.
The writing and voice acting are refreshingly well done for a modern-day Star Wars story. Respawn seems to be establishing themselves as a developer that can create compelling characters and stories without pushing any boundaries or taking too many risks- just a standard, well done story.
Graphics and art style are both impressive, the game struggles a bit on older hardware but is still playable. Facial animations are realistic and combat animations have a nice amount of variety.

Overall this game is really fun and I think Respawn is cementing themselves as a top tier developer in current times. Hopefully they continue their trend of creating simple but effective stories with excellent gameplay. A few technical hiccups and a handful of frustrating puzzles and platforming are minute blemishes on an otherwise excellent game.

The game in it's current state is a worthy successor of Civilization V, in my opinion. Gameplay mechanics are changed to better compliment each other and new ones that work well are also introduced. Online play is much less glitchy, and a new, much faster game speed ("online") is also created, which can be used in offline play aswell. Graphical improvements are made across the board, and the game looks great while maintaining the artistic style of previous games. AI works well enough, my only complaint is that the developers try to make AI characters act too much like they are trying to emulate online opponents. For example, they will always act within a very specific set of rules specified by the playstyle each Leader is built for, and many times in an offline playthrough this will result in some pretty hilarious diplomatic interactions.

Overall I really enjoyed this game and feel like it is definitely worth playing for fans of Civ 5. A few blemishes here and there only slightly detract from an otherwise outstanding turn-based strategy experience.
