I waited 11 years to play this one, and it doesn't give me a single drop of joy.

Despite the trailer showing intense mecha action, in reality it's a Colony Wars ripoff where you can, for no particular reason, morph your ship into a mecha. Graphics look heavy in general, but actually they are pretty unrefined. The music is very repetitive, a sort of Homeworld ripoff instead. But that would be fine if it wasn't for all the rest.

The story is basic, the acting is flat, the missions feel empty. The skirmishes are either too simple or too long. The instructions on screen are unclear: the primary objectives are indicated but they are impossible to decypher among all the symbols scattered on screen. The vocabulary isn't clear too: sometimes you have to destroy "heavy turrets", but there are no such things: there are plasma cannons, laser cannons, missile turrets, and some of them are the ones that the objective is calling heavy, while the others are not. Secondary objectives, instead, are not indicated at all. But enemy cannon fodder is, so good luck navigating all these icons trying to understand where to shoot your ammo. Allied ships are useless; enemy ones are too and they only pose a threat because they are so many. As usual enemy big ships are impossible to destroy while allied big ships are always on the brink of explosion, and of course you have to save them. There are lasers flying everywhere but when you get damaged you never really understand what is actually hurting you, you just see the health decreasing and the only thing you can do is continously run away and attack again when the shields are back up. And if you die? It either becomes too easy, because you get your ammo back and full health, or frustrating, because the checkpoint is too far behind so you have to do again a lot of things that you already did. And finally, the mecha: when you morph into it controls are totally different, and they suck. Sometimes you die because the mecha doesn't morph when required, or because you finish the energy and it morphs back to a ship where you are at contact with an enemy cruiser, and you end up splatting yourself like an idiot against the enemy ship. You never feel "strong" despite having a damn mecha: it's fast but it's very unprecise and unpleasant to control and play with.

I mentioned Colony Wars. This one doesn't have the quality storytelling, the epic sounds, the constant awe, the simplicity that made the combats so exciting. It has so much more and yet it is just tyring. It's such a pity.
