Early Access Review
I am going to actually write a review for this game because it took me a couple hours to learn how to play.

Summary: A bunch of users are saying this can't be played solo, they are wrong. They have to relearn how to play this game as it is not a normal single player FPS. Once you or they learn this you can have a lot more fun.

First off, I have played a lot of FPS shooters and a lot of it solo. So when users post here going "it can't be played solo" I want to know why. Normally you need coordination to beat a challenge (raids) or literally multiple warm bodies to trigger events, but not in this game. This game is about throwing enemies at you until you run out of ammo, health or both.It was after 3 hours that this game *clicked*, it is Serious Sam dropped into Left 4 Dead. You need to learn to generate a storm of bullets and learn to back peddle like never before.

I recommend starting as Amir to get timing, pace and how utilities work. You need to constantly be refilling your health and ammo and Amir's out of the game starting gear does just that. Unlike Remnant or Left 4 Dead, you need to learn you have unlimited health regens and unlimited ammo boxes; it is just that you can only carry 5 at a time. This mean when you clear waves or objectives you need to resupply, bandage, and get ready for the next set.

Movement is a key element of this game. Take advantage of how dinosaurs take a second to regain awareness when climbing or dropping down. You can bounce back and forth to give you the few moments to reload and send them back into the ground.

For those who want to play solo I am building this FAQ / hints to really help solo players and group players to survive a bit better:
  • SPACE BAR IS YOUR FRIEND. You can "hop" which is more like dodge while doing some actions such as healing.
  • Healing regens don't stop if you get knocked down or take damage. Think of it as a "you really won't die while healing".
  • If you have to pick between healing or reloading, heal, always.
  • Keep moving, normally backwards.
  • Target burrows first; ignore all dinosaurs until all burrows are dealt with
  • Dinosaurs have tells, they tell you what they are about to do, but there are lots so look for the ones about to do something dangerous.
  • Melee ragdolls most dinosaurs and lets you deal with them in your own terms.

This game is still in early access, for the solo players, you really need to take advantage of that because there are lots of helpful tactics you can form during this time. I find punting dinosaurs off cliffs since they like to hang near edges makes it both more fun and cathartic. You have to find new tactics in this horde shooter as being ammo stingy and stealthy do not help you in anyway and you need to unlearn this. If you can't you will not enjoy this game as the swarms will win with that approach.
