This game is a textbook idle game... not so much a clicker. I love it. I prefer games (within this genre) that pay well when offline, so I don't have to "actively idle". Depending on how you allocate your resources, this game will do exactly that... to the Nth degree. It is simple & straight-forward. The "strategery" lies completely within the resource allocation of the ABILITY POINTS and META ENERGY that are earned via max progress & resets (looping), respectively. It's like stripping away all the fluff of any idler and playing it's core engine. Good stuff.

This is a great game & I highly recommend it.
HOWEVER, you will probably need to make a few tweaks to make it run smoothly.

I have an ASUS laptop running WINDOWS 10 & an NVIDIA GTX 1050 TI GPU...
This game did not work for me "out of the box".
It would enter a boot-loop whenever I tried to play.
I was able to make the game play flawlessly on my system by doing the following:

SET */HOTD_NG.exe TO COMPATIBILTY MODE "WINDOWS XP SP3"
- To do this:
-- (1) right click on the file in Windows Explorer
-- (2) click on "Properties"
-- (3) click on the "Compatibility" tab
-- (4) set "Compatibility mode" to "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)"

SET */HOTD_NG.exe TO INTEGRATED GRAPHICS
- To do this:
-- (1) right click on */HOTD_NG.exe
-- (2) highlight "Run with graphics processor >"
-- (3) click on " Change default graphics processor..."
-- (4) In "Program Settings", under "Manage 3D Settings", select "The Typing of the Dead: Overkill (hotd_ng.exe)" AND select "2. Integrated Graphics"

IN WINDOWS 10, THE STEAM PROGRAM FOLDERS ARE LOCATED HERE (BY DEFAULT):
C:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\*

I was able to play after making these changes, but when I tried to play again, the bottom third of the screen was not displayed & my first mouse click would send the game to the background and remove the visible pointer. After toying with multiple settings, I found that setting (within the game) WINDOWED MODE to ON and ANTI-ALIASING to OFF under GAME SETTING > VIDEO SETTINGS prevents this problem. You may set the display resolution to its highest without causing any problems.

THIS IS THE BEST GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED.
Sadly, Epic bought Psyonix. So, it's gone from Steam FOREVER.
Quit asking for Steam to bring it back.
That said, if you can't play it here, play it wherever you can.

This controller has a very interesting/unique design, layout, and build. Works to PERFECTION with games SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to utilize the Steam Controller. Unfortunately, only a very few games take full advantage of the Steam Controller's design. For ALL games NOT tailored to the Steam Controller (99%+ of Steam Games at present), I MUCH PREFER XBOX CONTROLLERS. That said, I am still recommending this hardware... Acceptance & integration of the Steam Controller is a work in progress. Not to mention the fact that there is no such thing as "too many controllers"!! I suggest you purchase a Steam Controller, but make sure you get it on sale or from an authorized reseller. There is no reason to pay more than $35(US) for it.
