Added a DRM several years later, to say: ‘hey, we want to stop you from moddling our games, because we can’t tolerate nude stuff on our games.’
How politically right you’re Cap, enjoying standing on the high ground of human morality, thinking yourself better than anyone else, huh? You will be quick to see whether people buy it or not.

But hey, it’s a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ single player game, and guess what? We suppose to do whatever we want with it, no need to ask your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ permission, Cap.

Sigh…It’s another prime example of games went to digital is a cancer to the paid customers. It gives devs way too much freedom doing whatever they feel like it even after the products were delivered long time ago. At this stage frankly speaking, the products technically don’t belong to them to make a change.

Digital form games(GOG releases excluded) = you’ve brought a license to use, not the game itself. Because it’s never yours to begin with

In case you never heard of this title, but love horror genre as a whole. Enjoying a little challenge similar to Alien: Isolation, then this game is a MUST have.

Remember, the stealthy master doesn’t use any weapon, he/she vanishes in thin air without a trace ;)

Here’s a tale from the real world about Resident Evil 3.

I played the original Resident Evil 3 when I was a kid, it was the absolute fear that made me put the game away and never thought of going through with it again. It was too much for a 10 year old child who wasn’t ready for the journey at that time.

Then time flied to my high school days. One day, I carried the old RE 3 secretly in my handbag to an IT class in school, planned to continuously accomplish my classified mission that I dropped off a long time ago. Unfortunately the most naughty classmate in my class found what I was doing and decided to stick his nose to my top-secret operation which no one else supposed to involve. So we made a deal. I let him play a little in exchange for not reporting me breaking discipline back to the class tutor. Sounds like Jill works with Carols in real world, huh? Not exactly like you'd imagined.

Just like most of the innocents who never in contact with a RE game in their lives, he was soon overwhelmed and terrified by Nemesis and its lethal fellows who were lurking in Raccoon city and chasing him like witch hunters. He almost shxt his pants while trying to survive.

The story didn't end here. Later on, I was surprised this didn’t make him give up the game. On quite the opposite, he was stealthy taking Nemesis head on in front of the police station ever since, using the computer in class when day classes were over and no one was around(*we were in a boarding school, students had plenty of time after school when classes were over).

I shock my head every time I saw it. I thought the boy was a lost cause. It was my fault not over preparing myself and took him to the dangerous Raccoon City where he wasn’t ready for and obviously, it was too much for him. I didn’t know what the evil Nemesis had done to him, but he was obsessed about chasing Nemesis down ever since his first contact with it and the game probably didn’t expect this to happen either.

Back to the present day, I won’t say RE 3 Remake is a bad game, it’s quite good by the modern gaming standards in fact, a little short of course.
The problem is: it’s quite different from the old RE 3. They're like twins. Despite it’s hard to tell the difference by the looks of them, the personalities are not the same, you recognised it immediately by talking to them a little. If this makes sense?

To me, the old RE 3 is terrifying and challenging while RE 3R in the other hand, is a date sim with Nem Nem while he refused giving up the idea of bringing his grenade launcher to my party. Both games had done something brilliant which the other is lack of at some point.

The old RE 3 produces the stress and terror of holding scarce resources while fighting off life or death situations, meanwhile, seeking a way to progress the story with super model figured Miss V, is real and an unique experience none like any other. The game is lack of considerations of a modern game and serious at it's best. The extreme tension it created is also something you wouldn’t experience in another game besides itself. Of course, if you don’t mind funny square heads and arms which work more like a cure in game nowadays to ease your strain a little.

The new RE 3 however, is a more balanced game which Capcom lowed down some difficulties here and there to suit more new comers while delivering the ultimate cinematic visuals that only a well made modern game is capable of achieving nowadays.

Despite it’s still a pity that Capcom never officially releases a digital copy of the original RE 3 anywhere in the world which the new RE 3 can’t replace. It is one kind of gems that you don’t want to miss as a gamer.

In the year when this game came out, I never bothered to buy it despite it received positive feedback overwhelmingly. I asked myself, was there a reason to convince me purchasing it?

In one hand, I never heard of Capcom is good at making Western Fantasy RPGs, Capcom had like none at that time. In the other hand, there are games who had well known in this genre already, e.g Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age franchise. In short, best FRPGs based on western culture are made from western studios, they knew what they were doing, like pretty well, to my knowledge. Though I wasn’t particularly fond of this genre, why would I give this game a special pass? So I ignored it.

Now let’s fast forward time to this present day. Dragon’s Dogma 2 was announced and incoming within a few months. It has a far better presentation and advertisement, undoubtedly, it met my definition of what a modern game suppose to be, so it got my attention. Because it is a continuation of the 1st game, I brought it's ancestor, in hope through the journey of the first one, will eventually help me have a better understanding and experience in the 2nd entry of this franchise.

However I was wrong, I regretted the choice I’ve made.

After playing Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen for several hours, I went back to it's store page, to check whether my eyes had some problems or not. Because I can’t believe the game is from Capcom, a company who produced extremely high quality games like Resident Evil Remakes, Street Fighter franchise. I have double checked the time when this game was out, that’s right, the year of 2016. The very same year that Rise of the Tomb Raider landed us a mind blow experience in video games history. On the contrary, this game looks so ancient as if I dig it from somebody’s gravestone and started playing right away.

Here’s an image I shot. https://steamproxy.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3121839878
Did you notice the strange look of this poor guy? He looked like a terrible dwarf with an unusual big head as if he had some kind of sickness. I guess this is what happens when you hid yourself in a well for too long.
The character model of this game is horrible, I can barely make myself a satisfied character in order to hop into this world. Not to mention, the environment overall looks rough too, specially for a player who has just finished Avatar: The Frontiers of Pandora. I had hard time to adjust myself to pick up this game right from the beginning. Alright, if comparing to a game of 2023 was not fair, I don’t think I need to link a video of mine from Rise of the Tomb Raider here to back up my argument, do I?

Capcom, if you want to make an open world RPG or other genres with a large world to explore, the world itself must look real, it is how this genre works, OK? It’s not an JRPG of anime style, graphics doesn’t really matter.

If graphics are horrifying wasn’t bad enough, does the gameplay any better, so I misjudged it somehow? Unfortunately, not really.

Despite I am not too far in the game while writing this review, the mechanics of the gameplay isn’t too awful, but nothing impressive either.
The game doesn’t teach me too much at this stage, but I would still prefer a place to review all tutorials I’ve learnt so far. Not trust my memories for everything, you’re not the only game I am playing at the same time after all, DDDR. And some design choices are questionable. E.g there aren’t any level recommendations for all kinds of quests, the enemies don’t have any level indicators on their head, which resulted me having no clue of what kind of danger I am running into. It’s a red flag for an open-world RPG to be honest. Because, sometimes enemies are very weak, sometimes, they’re too OP even though they don’t look like it. E.g sometimes, I received a quest like sleeping for a while then suddenly facing a hydra head on the next day which making me look like a fool in front of my display. I don’t feel shame of running away from powerful foes, but I do mind knowing what I am doing, not bumping into some kind of challenge without consideration. Half of the time, the game feels random and unpredictable, and illogic, sometimes too. This is one kind of question.

The system of the game is rather complex than I’d expect. However, some details need more extra care. Like, weapons and gears can be upgraded, so when you purchase a new one, the comparison should base on the base status of what you’re equipped and what you are going to buy, otherwise we will have no idea of which one is better to go. The materials you need for leveling up gears should be highlighted somewhere in the menu, in case you coming across them while exploring the map but forgetting what they are called. Specially the game followed the Witcher’s tradition, the weight system. So you are unlikely going to pick up everything you found in the game. What are needed and what are not, should be clear. Again, the option of doing so is none.

Last, the game has only 1 save. To my experience, 1 save is a risking thing to begin with. Devs gotta be extremely confident of their games by doing so, which means there won’t be any ‘accident’ at any given stages of the game. Because if it were, we got problems. If a bug triggers in any part of the main quest line for example, 1 save could get me stuck. I have to beg the game is bug/issue free through the entirely long road ahead.

I don’t want my review being super long, so I am going to stop listing more flaws here. Generally speaking, DDDR fell into a mediocre RPG that I do not feel a strong desire to continue, despite I will still try. In other words, it’s too boring to play it for long judging by the content it represents.

In conclusion, I would recommend skipping this game, just wait up to jump into the 2nd game straight away. There’s no need for a backtracking this time.

It’s a selfie game, you take pictures of Shionne and Kisara all around the places, then upload these selfies to the community, that’s it.

Q. What about other things?
A. Haven’t you had enough in the main game?

Q. Worth the price they’ve been asking for?
A. No, not really. The direction is wrong here.. The DLC story is like 2 short chapters. = =|||
Devs should have made the story worth the length of 40 side quests rather than asking players spending most of their time on 35-40 boring and nothing new side quests( a few of them are good ones), specifically we are too familiar with all characters and world settings thanks to the mega main game.

Despite the game requires you to play both 6 & 7 in order to understand the story fully. It’s still a must play, if you like Yakuza (Like A Dragon) series.

Sign…what am I gonna do without you, Kiryu chan?

Recommended it or not?
It really boils down to what is your focus of Crymachina?

This game reminds me a lot of Nier: Automata: exquisite character design, unforgettable soundtracks, unique story. Gameplay in the other hand: clunky jump & dash actions, extremely repetitive levels, in one sentence: neither live up to the modern standard of a hack n slash genre nor ARPGs.

Technically, I brought this game for its art and soundtracks, it’s like seeing a unique antique in an auction house, despite its bidding price is high, I could hardly reject the will of possess it. To me, it’s better buying it than 10 common artifacts equally the same value to my lab.

I wrote this review solely on purpose, sending the message to developers: the studio you’ve cooperated for the game art did an amazing job that made me not only overcome the prejudice of the price, but also deciding to storm the game until a 100% completion. It’s my appreciation for bringing such a wonderful piece of state of art to my collection. Moreover, the CV behind Enoa is a legend. Not only did she portrait Enoa perfectly, but also left some soul-calling vocal songs that I added to my private playlist. I have only 8 all time favorite songs to be played over and over among one million songs I’ve listened to. Now, 1/8 is from this game.

However, if I were gameplay focused, above wasn’t my true color.
I wouldn’t recommend this game at all. As I’ve said before, the jump & dash in the middle air animation are wonky and quite uncomfortable to control. It’s easily misstepped and fell off an edge during an exploration. There are few enemies in the game, same looking, same attack pattern, different names( not important), level differences which matters to be precise. Levels are pretty repetitive. The real problem isn’t combat being simple or levels are repetitive, they’re too simple to be called ‘fun’. Here’s my own sample video of the levels as a prove of what I said.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iI7XvbgMOw

Well, if you can get over with the repetitive thing like I did and start enjoying it somehow, then I believe, you will like this game.
But still, developers should’ve let players have chance to control rival characters, experiencing the story from different perspectives for example, like Fate Samurai Remnant has done. It would add diverse value to the game, better than it is now. Personally I think the pace of the game has some issue too. Part of the game is heavily presented as a VN. The game’s surprisingly talkative as hell, you often do long conversations, watch cut scenes, then suddenly rejoining a furious battle against sci-fi monsties. The contrast is a bit too extreme, no?

Unfortunately gameplay wise, Crymachina doesn’t live up to the standards of modern ARPGs or hack & slash genre should be. If this is your focus of a game, I wouldn’t recommend it. I won’t even advise buying it with a discount. Better skipping it, playing something else entirely for better hack n slash or ARPG experience like Fate Samurai Remanent or the incoming Tales of Arise new expansion: Beyond the Dawn.

S.C’s Score: ∞/??? I cant rate it, don’t wanna drag my personal sentiment into it.

Extremely bad game due to no controller support. I believe this game wouldn't be this clunky which made me wanting a 3rd arm if it had a proper controller support. Who would play a game using K&M in 2023 apart from some certain genre like RTS??

About the game itself, despite the game's saying the vampire mistress is attracted by sound, however whether you couch, walk or run makes 0 difference. It's a one-off deal, if you got spotted, you're dead. If the thing were just this simple, but no. It is very hard to tell which direction she comes from judging by the sound of her footsteps. Remember, you can't be spotted or everything's too late.

Have zero idea about how this game's mechanics work even in the very early stage of the game which made me have no choice but to give it a thumb down. Devs, you'd better fix the game with major controller support and the existence of check points otherwise I don't see there's a way I'd recommend this game to anyone. It's not about price.
