Sent me back to my childhood playing this on my Compaq PC back in 2006. When I heard this was getting a Remaster I was absolutely all in and eagerly waiting its release. I've played the originals a lot and its really something special seeing your childhood game get a new coat of paint.

The game, of course, is not out yet, and they specifically detail that this is an Alpha Demo, so many things are still very much work in progress and there are many bugs. Many visuals from the original are still missing such as highlighted items, enemy AI sometimes breaks, mouse input detection is a bit off and menus are a bit clunky.

My biggest fear when I first saw the reveal trailer was the altered combat. In the original combat felt smooth despite the animations being very of its time. In the reveal trailer, combat looked noticeably worse and very floaty. However, this ended up not being the case at all. The combat animations and combat pacing are all kept as they were, which is a huge relief.

Then there's the visuals, which are the biggest change from the original. Instead of reworking every single visual in the game, it seems WT/gamigo uses a mix of upscaled textures from the original alongside new textures. This creates a new visual presentation of the game while still preserving the artstyle. Water is also very pretty, lighting effects are dynamic as well and reflections feel very nice. However, limiting the demo to only 12 minutes feels a bit lame as I'd like to take more time to explore the game.

The original FATE also received a few neat updates such as Capes, Earrings, additional Pets, weapons and armor that were introduced in its sequels. However, the potion hotbar has been reduced from 6 to 4, which is an odd change.

I am very happy this franchise is still alive as it was my first introduction into the ARPG genre and excited to once again support the developers!
